i think Suz has a really shitty wheelie control. Aleix had to slip the clutch a ton during his start and dropped like a stone. perhaps they couldnt get the electronics right w/ the new engine so quickly. perhaps Aleix over-slipped the clutch. either way, i expect their starts will be better at Assen.

Rossi was as fast as Jorge, but the bad Q means too much time made up passing people. He can actually win the title this year. He just has to work his Q out better. Gotta start at least second row

Rossi will probably try to Q better, but it's not quite his style. He better pray that MM can hang on and, as Bassem said, rough Lorenzo up a bit. That may be Rossi's ticket to getting the championship.

Mm has become the rider Ernie always knew he could be lol

Ernie was calling for a catastrophic huge crash, not this Rea-like crashing from over-riding a Honda that is not quite up to par.

That's funny. That's old man viewpoint. When you see the latest hot shot come out and destroy while riding on the edge you know their luck is only going to last so long. He's got so much potential, if he can only learn to pace himself. If he can't, he'll end up testing tires for a living. One of these crashes is going to fuck him up big time.

I agree that he has to learn to race a bit smarter. And he surely is, as we speak. I expect that when Honda gets the stuff fixed he'll just be back up there. I don't see a nasty "fuck him up big time" crash happening from the way he has been crashing this season. Of course you never know, but I don't think "that kid's going to get hurt soon" from seeing him crash.

Yamaha, you couch potatoes.

Welcome back.

^ Whoregay's a dork. An impressively fast, joy-of-watching-the-race-killing dork. Glad that he's in the mix in any case.

the hammer is still better than the mamba snakebite crap. fits his 'martillo' theme.

im still waiting on a mantequilla celebration :laughing

What the fuck is up with all the Lorenzo hate? The guy is absolutely railing... exactly what he gets paid to do. He doesn't ride dirty. He is flat spanking everybody. There are only a handful of riders on the planet capable of winning at the top of this food chain. And out of those, how many can pull off FOUR GP WINS IN A ROW? Hardly any.

You may not like him, but you have to respect his skills. He is magic. He does things with a motorcycle we can't even imagine. If any of us tried to ride what is an unrideable beast, it would spit us off in a couple nanoseconds.

And Rossi is just a tiny, tiny click behind him. If he had a better start, it would have gone head to head.

:twofinger

It's not hate, more like just dislike. No doubt Jorge has been in the top 3 riders for at least 6 years now. He may be the "best" rider in the world. But I think some people "don't like" him for a few reasons.

1) His "style," while deeply impressive, can be rather boring in actuality. No one else on the planet can even come close to riding a bike that fast, and that smooth. Most people couldn't even be that smooth if you let them go as *slow* as they wanted. Lorenzo is mindbogglingly smooth, the quintessential "inch-perfect" rider, hitting the exact same piece of tarmac lap after lap. Even down to his movements on the bike, like his foot on the peg, how it's positioned at that sort of awkward angle right up until he's increasing lean angle and gets about 10-15 degrees from full lean, where he moves it a few inches to get the toe out of the way. Every fucking corner, that exact same movement. It's is unreal, but you have to admit, it can become somewhat boring to watch when he's just cleared off at the front and grinds out the laps all the way to the end. No?

2) He doesn't seem up for a full on bar banging battle. He preferred the Lorenzo-Stoner-Pedrosa "gentleman's agreement" instead. When we've got guys like Rossi-Marquez-Iannone to entertain us, well, who would prefer to watch Lorenzo's style of duel?

3) He seems to be really insecure, or whatever other word you want to use for mental problems. Crying on King Kenny's shoulder. His wet weather vaginal flareups of late. Hell, just the other day when Aleix won the pole, Lorenzo made that comment about how he was "first on normal tires," he couldn't even let the Suzuki guys enjoy the moment. I remember in 2013, at the end in Valencia, Jorge won the race but MM was world champion. And yet Jorge's victory celebrations were over the top. It was like, "Really? Are you really so thrilled about winning this inconsequential race, when you lost the championship, and the season is now over and everyone is ready to pop the cork on Marquez' unheralded rookie season championship?" Every race win he has to do his stupid black mamba thing, or same stupid jump from the top step and fist pump. I don't know man....he just kind of seems like an insecure putz.

Well, i would not say hate, but it IS close. He was already "hated" when he was kid for his his arrogance and swaggar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzVu5sVQ0ZE and precisely for dirty riding , which is why pedrosa and lorenzo dont even talk to each other - after all in 125 and above all in 250 Lorenzo often used pedrosa and others as a berm (even bending his exhaust). In fact Lorenzo was penalized with missing the Malaysian race in 2005 - how often does that happen !! He has been fined in 2005 as well.

In fact, jorhay had numerous "incidents" with other riders - to say the least. Perhaps the only time JLo he sort of apologized was when he rammed into Hayden in PI (2009) by saying "It was totally my fault.... I did not expect [Hayden] to break so early and I rammed him" (guess spanish riders have more corner speed than mr. park it)

Thus, interesting enough, in spain, there is perhaps a bigger legion of "haters" than fans - mostly among actual riders who for the most part detest the man. Lorenzo's unflattering nickname is "chulenzo" - a word play from Lorenzo that comes from chulo (cocky, conceited etc) and that sums it well. And yes, his lame fist in the air jump and other antics just add fuel to the fire. In fact, the show off of his house with the pool "babes" on a youtube video incensed social media and making the news !! Loren inc took down the video !!

http://www.abc.es/deportes/motos/20131207/abci-jorge-lorenzo-mansion-video-201312071426.html
http://www.elcorreo.com/vizcaya/rc/20131209/gente/video-censurado-casa-jorge-201312082211.html

(which perhaps was overblown in spain, but that goes to show how much love there is for the guy)

Nevertheless, Yamaha's image consultants have been working with Lorenzo's poor image and therefore he has toned down a LOT since his 250 days - on and off the track. But let's face it.... he still can't help himself....

I remember studying Mat Mladin at Sears Point when he was dominating everything. His line around the entire track never varied an inch. He would throttle into a corner and shut off at the same exact spot every single lap without deviation. He was like a copying machine, cranking out super smooth replica laps every single time.

Was it boring? That's up for debate. Was it effective? You bet.

I don't think anybody here knows just what it takes to do what those at the top do. Hell, not too many guys here have been over 160mph with unrattled confidence. Lorenzo is relaxed as fuck at 225mph like it's a walk in the park.

Not easy by any stretch of the imagination.

Will he win any personality contests? Nobody really gives a fuck. He wins races. You can't take that away from him.

Yeah except that they do give a fuck. It's kind of precisely why we're even having this conversation.

im pretty sure a GP bike has never officially made it to 225mph. the unofficial GPS speeds at Mugello were ~223mph, but those dont count.

Iannone has the record at Mugello, this year @ 218.0mph
Dovi at Catalunya, 2014 @ 215.0mph
MM at Qatar, this year @ 217.8mph
Dovi at Indy, 2014 @ 214.8mph

if u want to see em all, head to the GP results page, select a track, then select 'Circuit Information' on the right. itll give u standing records for that track.

Yup, Mladin at Sears Point was amazing to watch. He'd exit T2 and hit the same exit apex and slightly light up the rear tire to T3 in the exact same place every time. The way he did it still sticks in my mind, one of the racing images I will always remember.

Lorenzo's a douchnozzle, but he is def a great great rider. Just more of the Kocinski style than the Rossi style. (Nobody liked Kocinski, not even his mama).
