Here is my argument: I'm no spring chicken; I'm a year from 40 and I'm in good shape. If I put in 5 years I can be a French National and I can change my name if I want to. If I lived to see the end of my contract, It would open up a lot of doors.

I'm a little older now and I appreciate different things, see things different.. I also like to push myself to the limit. I earned the Marine title. No chance for me to go back into US military service though.

So I pass this idea past my darling wife yesterday; that I want to go through the selection process and she ran away crying after watching some video.

:wow Guess that's a resounding 'no' from her?

I wonder if I'd make it though the selection process? Hmm. Second chance at reliving my youth?

What do you guys think? I should at least try out? huh Would you?

Do you want to be French? You do realize that it is intended for single men, oui? I mean, if you're already a Marine and you want to continue to serve, I think you can enlist in the National Guard until age 40 with prior service.

Oui- I can be a French National or retain my American citizenship after my contract is up. Some couples can last. Doesn't seem like my wife is thrilled.

She met me before I went into the Marines, she's one of the few who know me from before then. I haven't changed, I'm still me, I'm just slightly older.

It was her idea to go abroad to begin with, I'm just taking it to another level and now she's like NO WAY! :laughing

Unless you have no other options in life, I'm not sure why anyone would want to join the French Foriegn Legion.

Have you watched the documentary Bear Grylls did when he joined the French Foreign Legion? It was probably 10+ years ago and before his dumb ass show, but it looked pretty bad ass. Go for it.
 
Fuck dude it I were ten years younger and was contemplating suicide I'd do it. Good on ya.


EDIT: the Legion was always my "instead of killing myself I'll join" life option. And though I'm pretty sure I could hack their PT, at 47 with two sons under five years old I've outgrown that option.
