2008 Buell 1125R Recall
June 26th, 2008 by Paul Crowe - "The Kneeslider"

Buell has issued a recall for the 2008 1125R. Read the details below.

Manufacturer: Buell
Model Year: 2008
Models affected: 1125R
NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V267000
Potential Units Affected: 1579
Problem: Buell is recalling 1,579 model year 2008 1125R motorcycles. These vehicles can experience 5th gear galling on the clutch shaft due to lack of lubrication. This condition can allow the gear to seize to the shaft, resulting in rear wheel lock-up. This could result in a crash, which could cause injury or death to the rider.

Corrective Action: Dealers will inspect and repair the affected motorcycles free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on or before June 23, 2008. Owners may contact Buell motorcycles at 1-414-343-8400.

Sounds like the old 1200cc oil Titan Case problem from Pre 73!
Suzuki fixed that problem in 74... so 36 years ago?
Buell fixes it in 2008.
Only a third of a century behind!

Wow that's going to be tough to simply "inspect". Now we know how many have been sold - 1,579

That's what I call thinking ahead. How much of this is Rotax's responsibility I wonder? It just seems like Mr. Buell can't catch a break these days.

Wow, someone remimbers the Titan oil problem from the 70s, I'm totally impressed killfile. I just sold the remains of the 71 Titan I rode for 115 thousand miles, after installing the tranmission dam of course. Moonbeam

....yeah, when a small mfg comes out with a new bike there are bound to be some things that need to get updated. Lots of bikes, from lots of mfg's have lots of recalls. It is just the way it works sometimes.

Aparently this particular issue has only been experienced during track testing(I have been thinking that it probably is what the Buell expericneced during the 1st motoST race that it ran on the 1125R....and never finished), so high loads and lean angles. I am not stating this as fact, but it did come from a source that should have the proper information about it. The recall work takes about an hour. Since the bike will most likely be used by a significant %age of owners at the track they decided to do the recall for safety sake. None of the pre-production bikes that were shipped all over the country for the Inside Pass events were reported to have this problem, I can certainly say that I have not had any of our 1125R customers experience it.

On the positive side, the customers who have come in checking into the recall have been very mellow about it, not in any real hurry (we are only getting a few kits at a time)......and still loving the shit out of their bikes despite it having a recall on it!!

Recalls are a way of life on new products.......Rotax/Buell/Honda/Kawasaki/BMW/Harley-Davidson/Yamaha/Suzuki/Aprilia/KTM/Ducati/MV......etc,etc,etc......every single one of them has issued a recall, so lets not blow this out of proportion:teeth

Fixed.
In all honesty Erik Buell came up with an amazing motorcycle, it is just that something was lost between engineering and manufacturing.

rotax made the engine did it not...

darn I am hoping the 1125 does well. I like it.

Who makes the transmission? I would think Rotax would build and engine and transmission together.

Rotax, probably, since it is an integrated engine/transmission (in contrast to the sportster lump).

I thought it was recalled for the hideous air scoops on the lowers.

The much maligned Buell legend continues. :twofinger

First model year bikes have their quirks and mechanical gremlins. If the warranty work fixes it then no big.

I'm not a big fan of the Sportster engine powered Buells but I do like the modern engine/chassis setup of the new 1125R. I wouldn't mind a test ride on one.

:laughing:laughing:laughing:laughing

I Knew it! I fucking knew it!!!

Nobody wanted to listen to me, but I was right all along! It IS a piece of shit!!!

Poetic justice kudos all around, and the beer is on me!

Thats no shock if you are a former Buell owner. out of 84 bikes ive owned only one manufacturer sent me recall notices and the recall notices said do not ride this motorcycle serious injury or death could result. of course it was a Buell now once again we have the same situation only without a Harley motor Buell has even mamaged to pervert the rotax motor.

My co-worker bought this bike and after the bikes battery kept dying or not charging he took it back for a BMW. This bike sounds like crap to me.
