The charter plane glampers used to depart and arrive from my airport. They would wait in the lobby in front of my office dressed in their regalia. I'm so glad I stopped attending before this all started.

I'm definitely sad I never attended a 90's or 00's burn. Maybe nothing great stays pure forever. Oh well. :thumbup

Nothing gold can stay.

I'd say there were some big differences between the 90's and 2000's..

My first year there were no official streets and you camped where you wanted. Total chaos.. I brought my dog, I didn't pay (Said I forgot my ticket) - You entered the Playa and they said to set your compass north and drive 11 miles... It was SICK!! They had a 'drive by' shooting range (bring your own gun and car) and I think someone got run over in their tent that was set up out on the playa in the middle of nowhere.. That wasn't so great.

One year I had a cast on my leg and drove to all the various burns and performances. I'd get some sideways looks, but was fogiven when I got out with a cast on my leg and sat on my roof.. It was great.

Rave camp was a mile outside of the basic camp, and it wasn't a bar hopping party. Every other camp wasn't blasting house music.. That shit wasn't part of the scene. It was great!

In the 00's it seemed like it became a thing where every Tom, Dick, and Mary had big camps with huge sound systems blaring the damn bump, bump bump crap.. You couldn't get away from it.. The bar hoping thing became prevalent and it felt like every other camp had an open bar.. Still had a lot of really cool stuff to do and see.

I used to impersonate BR Rangers with my fake Laminate ID Badge, and also had one that said I was an official BM Photographer and walked around with my Polaroid camera. It was great! My badges got me to the front of all the burns and performances..

Once the crowd sizes got bigger and bigger it just wasn't worth it anymore. It's just too hard to get in and out and even leaving early it was too hard to get a chill spot to set up camp.

I was there for rain, mud, dust storms that lasted for days and all the hard living stuff. It was GREAT! Total survival of the fittest stuff. It's fun now to watch everyone loose their minds when the weather turns and folks make horrible decisions.

I’d like to make it a day trip, afternoon to late evening then get my ass out of there

I lived a few miles from in when it was at Baker's Beach in SF. Now I live in Reno, but also here in Auburn, CA.

I still have never been to B-M . And I do not have clue what goes on there.

I remember the rave camp way the fuk out there and still loud, the drive by shooting range, soaking in Fly hot springs (cost $1.50 to park and the mosquitos were vicious), setting up camp wherever you wanted, driving out on the playa, closing your eyes, putting the pedal to the medal and seeing how long you could keep your eyes closed.
One afternoon a big ass caddy pulls up next to our camp and 4 high school looking kids tumble out. They had a couple of tents, cases of beer, cigars and not much else. We adopted them and kinda took care of them. At one point, they invited me to sit in the caddy with the engine running and the air conditioning blasting. One of the dudes pulls out a glass pipe and starts to smoke meth. It was a surreal Hunter S. Thompson moment
On our first evening there, a van pulls up and 2 couples join our camp. We had a fire going and they saw the fire and wanted to know what was going on. We explained the Burning Man concept and they hung out with us for a couple of hours. Turns out that they owned a ranch up in the hills and were hunting guides. They invited us to go hunting with them anytime we wanted .
One year we camped next to white trash camp. They had a photo booth set up that would record 1 minute of video and every night they would project the videos on a big screen.
On another year, we camped next to the public pubic purge. It was a big tripod with a big fish bowl hanging from it and a bunch of scissors on strings. People would come by and snip a chunk of their pubic hair and put it in the bowl. The bowl was then placed in the base of the man for the burn.

Ah, the memories. Seems like Cabrito and I both had our first burn the same year.

The year of "ALL that Glitters, is not Gold"
Watching the opening ceremonies, burn night, some old guy wearing a white stetson pulled up & stopped, walked over and offered,
"May I gift you Sir"
I was shroomin' pretty good, and replied, with a grin, I'm good, right now thanks anyway.
This upset him, and repeated his request, a bit firmer, and I thought, why would I prevent his getting a warm fuzzy for gifting.
This coin was something you earned, to spend on access to the Man's interior, by volunteering.
Larry Harvey, handed me one, personally
I had spent the week gifting, wandering around with a bucket, gifting extra cases of Buds , one cold one @ a time.
The cheer that I got when the gifted one realizes, it is a COLD beer.

An employee @ AB would get a couple of cases of beer a month, because they took away our beer time @ work. 1/2 hour before and after shift, & breaks.
March 1st 1986, black letter day for pro brewers, beer time lost to a new contract.

Man burns tonite, scroll down,

And, TTTThhatt's alllll FFookss,

Free Burning Man from the shackles of Commerce !

Youtube has kept all the video marbles, locked up for $$$$.

I went back to watch the fun around 9:30 pm live feed button gone, in its place a button to take you to the census and stories you post of your adventures @ '26/ burn.
They want your stuff for free, for their profit.
Sorry Mr. Larry Harvey, your dream of the peoples imagination/inspiration, has gone capitalist . . .

Look what Cal Berkeley did to the "Peoples Park"
All the struggle, BS, of political shenanigans, protested for years,
ended up neglected and forgotten.
Paved
Isn't Berkeley going to build housing there?

Big Yellow Taxi… too many places.
Cool stories folks. We saw quite few dusty rigs on the road yesterday
