Busted for going a buck thirty.

Once, while cruising south on 101 in my VW bus, I picked up a tailgater in a BMW who was about 6” off my rear bumper. I was in the fast lane and the traffic was heavy. I, of course, didn’t enjoy having him so close.

As I slowly made my way along side of the big semi in the number two lane, I finally saw the reason the traffic was so slow. There was a CHP officer directly in front of the semi, holding to the 55 speed limit. And no one wanted to pass him. As the guy was still on my bumper and wouldn’t back off to a safe distance, I decided to teach him a lesson.

I very slowly backed off the gas and eased my way back behind the rig’s rear bumper and pulled in behind him.

This left the number one lane free and clear for the BMW and so he dropped a couple gears and angrily floored it, flipping me off in the process. By the time he cleared the front of the semi, he was easily doing well over 100. Of course, he didn’t see the CHP until it was too late.

I had a good laugh as I passed them both about two miles further on. I gave the BMW a friendly wave and a beep, beep with my horn, dropped down to second and floored it. (In second, my bus was good for nearly 80.)

Though admittedly an extremely rare occurrence, never under estimate a VW bus.

Well if we're dong cars....

First time I got north of 120mph was in my new to me (be definitely not new) '96 Volks Jetta VR6. 90k on the motor and suspension and the tires were of unknown age and probably due for replacement. I needed to be in Ft Collins from Denver for work and back then traffic on that stretch was pretty light during the week, particularly that early. I think I maintained around 110 most of the way and passed 120 for a bit for fun deciding to back off when the steering wheel got shaky :laughing

Another time, I was driving my dads new to him Honda Accord EX and decided to see what that 6 cylinder motor could do on thw way home from a movie. It was a week night in the suburbs and the road was empty so I just stayed hard on the gas from the on ramp all the way until well north of 100. At that point I noticed a pair of headlights behind me on the otherwise empty highway, so I just let off the gas and let the car coast it's way down in speed. Around the point I'd gotten to 80 or so a cruiser rolled up alongside us, paced me for a moment and shined his spotlight onto the car before taking off. I got the message and drove nice and chill the rest of the way home.

When I used to commute on my bike, I took 280 north to 85 and then 101 to Mountain View. On 85, just after the off ramp for 237, 85 traffic became very light. That’s when I opened it up to over 100. It was especially fun going over Evelyn as there was a rise at the top and my ST would get a bit of air. I always pulled into the parking lot at work feeling fresh and rejuvenated.

I guess I was a bit of a hooligan.

Got written up a few years ago for lane filtering and then speeding up to (gasp!) 43 mph in a 35 zone, in Gardnerville, NV.

This was at about 8am on a frosty late-October morning on my 20+-year-old Aprilia Futura, while wearing all my thickest clothing and Aerostich (so I definitely didn't look like a squid). It was so cold I asked the NHP officer if I could stand in the sun while his partner wrote me up.

$138 for the lane filtering.
$160 for the speeding ($20 for each mph over the limit)

I was pretty pissed.

We were practically neighbors: I got to Basic on Jan 26, 1971 and was in B-4-2. Moved to A-3-3 for AIT then on the Jump School at Ft Benning in late June.

You were likely not there when I arrived in June around the 25th. However, you are the only person I’ve ever run across who was at Ord around the time I was there. I received my MOS training at Fort Sam in San Antonio, TX. I was trained to be a dental technician. My first and only duty assignment was at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Aurora, CO, just east of Denver. Back then it was known as the country club of the army. It was about one square mile of the hospital, the WWI hospital behind it, support buildings, empty fields, and an 18 hole golf course. I spent my whole time at Fitzsimmons due to the full bird colonel liking my work so much he pulled some strings. It was an easy three years.

That's Doug Kamholz, I assume:

" thought it would be cool to paint it to look like my CHP BMW. My captain was okay with it, so I had the bodywork and my helmet painted to match my work bike, and Helimot made leathers that looked just like my uniform."

Sure is... had some good times at Laguna and Thill with that copper. Good dude.

I got tagged for 56 in a 55 in the middle of Texas some years ago.
It doesn’t pay to have out of state plates!
Cost me $35 dollars, but the worst part it followed me to California and points on my license.

aw yeah ticket point reciprocity with TX but nothing else done in TX will transfer to CA. :ROFLMAO:

That is the suck. :wow
Ain't that the truth.

At least (in my limited experience), NV tickets aren't reciprocal with CA. Law enforcement can find out about them (SFPD was aware of my NV ticket) but my insurance doesn't know. Shhhhhhhhh.

I got stopped on 101S going past where the M8trix is now, back when the speed limit was 55. I was given a warning for going too slow, probably struggling to keep my old Honda 185 above 50. Cop thought the bike was not HWY legal. Probably looked something like this
