Butane micro torch fuel

My goal is to defeat the thread lock.

The heat (extreme) will bubble up the once liquid thread locker, yes. But you will have a mess inside the threads to clean up. For that you will need to mechanically chase them. After it reaches a melting point it will crystalize. (ask me how I know)

How do you plan on removing the busted stud once heated up?

.

Once the thread lock has softened the remains of the screw should be loose enough to back out. The upper one has less to get ahold of and will be my first. I plan on getting a grip on it with needle nose pliers once I see the thread lock soften begin to turn it out. If that doesn't work I'll have a go at it with a left handed drill bit.

Cheers!

Don't count on that. They may be in there pretty good still, so you will need to drive them out as if they are jammed up. Try what appears to be the easiest one first, heat it up plus a little bit of the surrounding area and see if it will back out. It may not be easy, so be patient.

if you have an impact driver and space, you might also consider notching whats left and using a flat head bit in the driver

Here's the job I'm looking at.

A generous amount of thread lock was used and I need to weaken it before I attempt extracting. I have a micro torch ordered but I need to get fuel for it. Does anyone know where I can get triple refined butane in San Francisco?

Cheers!
Ace Hardware has some. I just picked up a car last weekend.

I've been to the rodeo many times, but this is the first time my impact tool didn't break a fastener loose. I've had bunged screw heads in the past which I've been able to get out, these are the first that I've considered using heat on. The thread lock is blue, factory original application.

Does the thread lock soften when heated, or cooks and gets brittle?

This is the torch I ordered:

It should do the job. I just need the proper fuel.

Cheers!

If you can return it, Harbor Freight sells these micro torches for $7.00. They work just fine.

Sorry, these things are too soft.

Cheers!

In combination with the torching, the shock will do a better job at getting them free. Don't overdo it and you'll still be able to get pliers on them if they don't break loose, but if they aren't loose, pliers aren't going to help much.
