Buying a handgun. 22LR for the range.

Saw a guy at the range with an HK MP5 .22 conversion. Said it was officially licensed by HK, which IIRC is a UMG? Could be wrong but there's only like one manufacturer of them.

Are you guys serious about ammo hoarders?

Why the hell would anyone even think about hoarding .22LR?

it's easy to blame hoarders than to admit manufacturers aren't putting out.

Hoarding doesn't say why an entire store gets three small boxes a week. It might if the store got the usual 50 boxes and one person bought them all, but if they never get to the retailer, they're not being "hoarded".

Piling on:

Jesus, please don't buy that utter piece of shit.

The Ruger 22/45 or Mark 3 or the Browning Buckmark.

Basic 22/45's can be had for around 300$. They are not the best, they are actually the cheapest thing that is worth spending money on. The best cost thousands (pardini etc).

As you get better at shooting you can mod them to make them better. You want a target gun, not a throw away gangster pos. A decent pistol will have great resale as well, if you decide shooting is not for you. Buy once cry once.

Guns are one thing I would not cheap-out on.
I didn't want to spend much at all on my first one, but I bought a new Ruger from Omar's store. Anything does happen to go wrong with it, I take it back.

I was thinking of a taurus model 94 or the tracker that can shoot 22 lr or 22 wmr

^^^ Save your money and buy a S&W 617 ^^^

Taurus revolvers: you might get a decent one, or not. Seems to be about a 50/50 chance either way.

I think you've got a much better chance than 50/50 of a Taurus being a decent revolver, I'd recommend it.

One that definitely fits the OP's price range, but I know next to nothing about, is the Heritage Arms Rough Rider...which is a kind of knock off of the Ruger Single Six. Another option anyway.

I don't really think any of this matters though, the OP already talked himself into that little HP22A, I don't think anything is going to talk him back out of it.

Actually considering the Rough Rider.

I like that the HP22A has an option for a 5" barrel which should be much better for target.

Sadly no threaded barrels on handguns in CA :( really wish I could get a 22/45 Lite with a comp

Maybe so. Go to Bud's and view any Taurus revolver and read up some reviews. They are about 50/50. But even if they were 25/75 that would be horrible for a gun, any gun, imo.

See some of these, but you could click on any Taurus revolver and get the same reviews. They just aren't very good.

I just picked those randomly. Just my opinion on these. Sounds like OP has their mind made up. You can lead a horse to water....:laughing

Yeah that sucks! I heard all the 22/45's were falling off the list? Not sure if that is true.

Glad I left, I wish I had done it sooner. Whenever I go back, I can't wait to leave! :thumbup

It appears that all the Ruger 22s are off the roster now. However, simple possession of a pistol with a detachable magazine and threaded barrel is a felony.

Wanna drool?

I have the Ruger 22/45. If you have big hands, it's a great gun!

OP, if you want an inexpensive .22 to get into shooting, you're probably best served to get a used .22 revolver. I got one years ago and it was extremely accurate, very easy to clean and a ton of fun to shoot. You'll get much better quality, for the price, than you'll get with a semi-auto.
