Hi all,
I found a great deal on a used moto up in BC (11000 MILES), and am planning on buying it and getting it shipped here. I know I have to do the following
1. Get an EPA conformance letter from manufacturer
2. Get paperwork from import brokers.
Get it shipped down

3. Get it registered here (this is the part I am not sure about)
I have registered out of state bikes > 7500 miles here in california, but never one from Canada, with a Canadian title.
Does anyone have any experience/knowledge with this?

These are where you are most likely to get screwed. (unless is a collector vehicle and you are willing to spend $$$, I am not sure its worth it. But if you do follow through please post up and let us know how it goes, I have always wondered)
Evidence of compliance with California emissions standards (1968 year-model and newer gasoline-powered vehicles and 1980 year-model and newer diesel-powered vehicles).
Evidence of compliance with United States (U.S.) safety standards (vehicles 24 years old and newer).

Yeah, some other discouraging news. Guess you'll have to meet with CARB and go over specifics of bike and if it can be converted to meet Federal and CA standards.

Not all direct import vehicles over two years old can be converted to California emissions standards and FMVSS. If the vehicle is a 1968 or newer year-model auto or commercial vehicle, or a 1978 or newer year model motorcycle that does not comply with EPA or CARB emission requirements, contact CARB by phone at 1-800-242-4450 or by email at helpline@www.arb.ca.gov.

Motorcycles, off-highway vehicles, and diesel-powered vehicles cannot be converted to California emissions standards at this time. Therefore, they cannot be registered in California unless they were originally manufactured to meet U.S. and California emissions standards.

Why go through the whole process of posting and not share what bike you purchased... geeeesssssss...

Guilty..2011 Harley xr1200.. Clean and cheap. But if the fees are prohibitive, then not worth it

Given the hassle, it would need to be near free to be worth the effort and expense.

I was hoping he found either the original Africa Twin Or maybe an NSR 500.

Guy was recently selling an xr1200 on sf Craigslist for 6500. Might have been listen in parts to avoid fee.
