Cal Worthington Dead

Why do we care about a dead car salesman? Isn't that what we wish upon them when we leave a dealership?

Goes back to two or three channel days, when everyone saw more or less the same thing. A lot easier to be an "icon" in those days. It's a Baby Boomer thing, because everything we saw or did was WAY more important than the rest of ya:laughing And anything that was big in LA in those days tends to be even bigger....

Guess ya had to be there. I have only read about Cal Worthington and seen a few clips because I'm from NorCal but he's pretty famous.

We had Ralph Williams (he also had dealerships on SoCal, I think), Chip Lambert, Ellis Brooks ( and Marie Brooks), I guess we STILL have Glenn Hartzheim, and so forth. Other geezers will pull a few names more out of the hat. Need more coffee to remember them all.

Yeh, I forgot about Pete Ellis, thanks!

sung: "Pete Ellis Dodge
1095 West El Camino Real
Sunnyvale."

Same tune and arrangement as the SoCal version (which I just now looked up on the Youtube). I swear, until I read the name Pete Ellis above, I had not thought about that damn commercial, but the address just popped into my head. It worked.

Probly had subliminal messages saying "buy a car, buy a car, buy a car."

EDITING IN: HERE'S CHICK LAMBERT, apparently after he got fired:

Those two were spamming the after-school cartoons on channel 11 every single day. :rolleyes

Moderators, can you please merge this with the other Cal Worthington thread? thanks.

In threads like this I always think of the all night movie hosts "The Old Sourdough and Wachikenoka" (MMM Carpets?)

Dude was a B-17 Pilot in WWII. 29 combat missions in Europe.

Silly commercials be damned, he has my respect.

So was my grandfather, shot down twice and still served in korea

my respect to your grandfather, too.

29 combat missions is significant. a tour was 25 missions. This means he volunteered for extra missions...
