California Raising Taxes

And I thought they were gonna put a tax on California Raisins :laughing

Buckle up kids....we're in for some more taxes. I understand they had to do something, but this all seems a bit harsh.:thumbdown

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2009/02/11/state/n195302S44.DTL&type=politics

12 cent increase in gas tax
State sales tax increase to 9.25%
Double the vehicle license fee
5% income tax increase
dependant tax credit reduced from $300 to $100

Jesus:rolleyes

That's going to put my taxes at like 51%:|

If this money was going ANYWHERE useful, I wouldn't mind. It'll get pissed away on inflated salaries, special interests and wasteful programs like the other 30% of my taxes:hand

:wtf This is horrible. I never understood how you could fail at running a state government when you take money out of people's pay checks and have all kinds of guaranteed revenue coming in. These people should try to run their own company before trying to run out state.

State Employees, the laziest of the lazy. oh yay!

I would love to see a chart that shows the number of state employees for the last 20 years along with the average salaries of those workers. I would bet that there has never been a reduction in the number of bodies or even a slowdown in overall salary averages.

I'll be happily voting out any incumbent next election. While I think the gas tax and vehicle fees are fine, do they really think that we can handle more income and sales tax?

c'mon mcarb, what do you think a stimulus bill is? :laughing

Yeah, i am waiting on more info about the Income Tax Surcharge. last night they said it would be on all income tax returns filed for 2009... not just those that would owe.

EDIT: But it all still sucks majorly.

Someone's gotta pay for those octuplets... :later

Let's see...

12 cent increase in gas tax -- I hardly use any gas.
State sales tax increase to 9.25% -- I hardly ever buy anything taxable.
Double the vehicle license fee -- there goes $90 a year
5% income tax increase -- is that an additional 5% of income, or 5% of the amount owed? Big difference.
dependant tax credit reduced from $300 to $100 -- I have no dependents.

Maybe I'm a libertarian after all, because if the only valid test of a budget or other policy initiative is "how does it affect ME ME ME," then this one isn't so bad. :dunno

Dude.. Anal Lube is taxable. That right there should put a damper on yer wallet. :twofinger :rofl

Again, wait for more detail on the Income tax Surcharge. that's what will get everyone who files this year.

That does suck...

...but we do need a reality check. We have it so good here! In my opinion, some people in California have really forgotten what hard work is.

....and in general, we're taking everything around us for granted. Everything from the nice roads we ride on everyday to the water that we use to clean ourselves. In most parts of the world, a shower is an extreme luxury.

Just keep that in mind..
