Whats all the fuss about the sticker colors? Red, green, are there any more? What do they mean?
Green Sticker: You are restricted and there are restrictions as to where and when you can and cannot ride (but it could be worse-see below)
Red Sticker: The previously mentioned restrictions are applicable but along with increased restrictions and there are provisions in place to limit your activities. When and where you can or can not participate in such activities will also be more restrictive.
Oh yeah I almost forgot: The fees you pay for these stickers is about to double!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Carnegie has revised thier red sticker season by opening in October - April . One month earlier , I guess they must have figured out that a few dirt bikes ridden on weekends are not what is killing the planet . Green sticker bikes can ride year round but since Carnegie sucks in the summer time who cares .

Seriously, though, the red sticker allows you to ride during a limited season (normally not during the summer when smog levels are particularly high). The actual dates that you are allowed to ride red sticker bikes varies from one area to another within the state. Green stickers allow you to ride all year round.
Lots of newer bikes are red sticker bikes, which means they don't meet California's emission standards (even four strokes). Most MX racing type bikes will be red sticker, while most playbike/trailbike four strokes will be green sticker. All bikes older than a certain year (2002?) are green sticker.
So how do we know which bike models are red or green sticker when making a new bike purchase?...
I may be in the market soon for a new 4-stroker and want to make sure it's a green sticker bike...
Thanks
Carnegie and Hollister Hills is also getting really strict about green sticker bikes meeting emmission's standards. I hope they're not checking plated bikes for evaporation cannisters.![]()
