Can't imagine a bigger bummer...

Child :rose

Parent :twofinger

He was driving a Protector. Only thing I can guess is that the kids were in the bow, hit a wave and toss them into the water and he then ran over them. The Protector has a very low free board.
The Raccoon Straights can get pretty choppy. There is a one area that can have a breaking wave. We used to surf that in our small boats.

Mentioned it before, but the kid go ejected from the boat once when she was two. Had nightmares about it for years. I can still make myself feel sick thinking about it. Pretty certain I'd have killed myself had she drowned.

^^
I hope this thread didn't put you back there.
Obviously not my intent.

Oh no, all good. That was fifteen years ago, so the trauma isn't quite as fresh, but no matter the mistakes this asshole made, I can empathize a tiny slice of it.

:rose for the son.

I had a case when I was in Florida of a dad who had his seven year old daughter in front of him on a jet ski. He lost control and slammed into the front of the pontoon boat which held the rest of the family. She didn't make it. Holiday weekend, so lots of people and other boats around to witness. Alcohol, poor control, and excess speed makes for a deadly combination. I will never forget that case or that scene.

odd that they allow him to walk after the million dollar bail. i know is his own son,but wouldnt the DA consider him a flight risk?

I doubt they have had funeral services for the boy yet. This guy might have fucked up but, unless he is real scum, he's going to be at the funeral.

Agreed, but I confess I thought the same thing. I read he pulls in over $175k a month after taxes and has multiple properties in Mexico. Add to that he is a member of one of the wealthiest families in that country.
I'm not saying anything about him as a person or his character but it certainty sounds like he has the means to disappear if he chose to.

I wasn't aware he was such a big shot. Yeah that changes things. Ankle monitor at least.

Slightly tangential to topic, but what is it with rich dudes and Protector RIB's?

I know several entrepreneurs who own or want to own them. IMHO they are pretty pointless and potentially dangerous if you are not actually protecting anything and have trained crew.

Seems like "tactical" firearms for people with even more cash to burn.

Once again...I confess the same thought crossed my mind.
Like I said, I've logged more than a few hours in that Belvedere marina.
The words 'impractical' & 'unnecessary' come quickly to mind.

Devils advocate, who is clueless about boats, opinion to follow....

Maybe the yacht scene is played out and too flashy??? what kind of boat should a big shot have?

So he ran them over while approaching them in order to do the rescue (pull) ?

The word "should" in your post is certainly not up to me but one can be flashy and extravagant while still being somewhat practical.....just my :2cents though.
I'll never have that kind of money so I suppose I'm not entitled to too much of an opinion.
