Triple square is so annoying. Thanks VAG

Agreed, hahah. Not even a mechanic but a regular owner here.

Sure love that I now have the triple squares. Helped me change a fkn battery.. oh well, saved some on the seatbelt buckle replacement too—unbolted the seat.

Audi loves to use a melange of various fasteners for a single component. Try removing an under shield and you need a T20, T30, a Phillips screwdriver, and something to release plastic rivets.

True I have a T25 for 8 screws on the under shield..and T30 for three screws at the back of the shield on the subframe : | :laughing

Why you guys don't like triple square...i love them, they don't strip, the bit holds them tight so it is easy to insert, you can put a ton of torque on a small head... they just collect dirt.... that's about the only drawback...

There's no reason to expect infallibility from a dealer. Versus jiffy lube, sure, but they're high pressure high productivity environments. A trustworthy independent has just as much, if not more potential to have a lower comeback rate. I've had 2 warranty jobs done on my audi and both times the car came back assembled incorrectly.

It is partly because it is an audi.... there are many repairs on those cars where you have to draw a line where you stop.....3.0T let's fix the broken throttle body flap actuator because it sets a bunch of codes and you want to pass smog ... well since the supercharger is coming off, may as well replace the thermostat since they all fail..water pump? .... oops the bypass tube does not look healthy, it is cracking, ok OK, let's replace crossover tube as well, but all the pcv stuff is brittle, replace all of those too, how about the pcv valve, yep add that too... one of the injectors pulled out.... do them all, look at all that carbon on the intake valves!!!....this would be a good time to do the valve cover gaskets since they are leaking... might as well do the plugs, the vcoils look sick? ... radiator hoses ? and this is just the beginning.... those cars are..... you make your own conclusion

Because now I have to buy a bunch of triple square tools :laughing

Not all dealers are equal. Story time!

I’m sure you know of Honda and the Takata airbag recalls.

sorry to further the derail, but but definitely true.

my mazda (basically a ford ranger) got recalls twice for the airbags as well. scheduled with the mazda dealer in town (that i bought it from) for the recall, a week out. take it in, only to find they didn't order the part, they'll call me when it's in. a month later, i haven't heard from them, so i call...get told, oh, they'll have to check, they'll call me on monday...still nothing.

call mazda corporate, end up getting set up with another dealer 45 minutes away (a couple towns over), confirm the dealer should have a loaner, and if not, mazda will cover a rental. get call from dealer, order part, set appointment when part comes in, and double check that i'll have transportation, told no problem.

all is good till the day of drop off, dealer calls a couple hours before i'm due to drop it to say they don't have their loaner back, and asks if can i find my own way home because they don't have their ONE loaner back. i kind of gave him an earful about how i've been promised and planning around having transportation, i'm not picky about what it is, but no, that's not going to work. eventually they figured something out and gave me a cx5 for the couple days they had my truck.

when the 2nd recall rolled around, i just took it to the out of town dealer, and planned for hanging out while they took care of it. everything else, i have a trusted independent in town.

I know because I just purchased all the fasteners and speed nut things for my splash shield. The mix of non VW stuff was driving me nuts.

Everyone who buys a sc 3.0t knows that's gonna happen :laughing im talking about a door panel reinstalled incorrectly after a regulator motor repair and seat components not reinstalled incorrectly after a broken seat frame.

Hahaha, you are right, i was just ranting. Interior is the best part of the audi, and is very nicely made. Lasts a long time too. 200kmi audi leather seats look like 50kmi seats on bmw. No reason for that to be put back together wrong.

My 3.2 has been throwing codes and going into EDC (may be confusing letters with gun stuff).
It has been sitting for 6 months because finding a competent TRUSTWORTHY mechanic here is tough. The one guy probably capable is booked solid for months.

Even the Audi dealer here is dodgy. They service cars out back, outside. Seriously. Still want $300usdfor an oil change too.

My 2010 a6 with 110k miles is almost as good as my 2018 sq5 with 20k. I'm not holding my breath that the new cars will hold up anywhere near as well. Already had the sunroof replaced after 4 attempts to fix a roof rattle...
