I believe this is a RS3 can and has a similar hanger to the one above in the sense that it rivets directly into the can

The bike went down and landed on the exhaust side causing the hanger to rip a hole in the can
(riveted hanger was completely removed)

The packing looks a lot worse than it is. I've repacked a few cans and this one looked fine to me to I didn't bother repacking. I laid down the first layer of CF and applied a very thin layer of resin and let that dry. I didn't use a lot of resin at first because I wanted to make a base to build on and didn't want any to seep into the packing.

When the resin dries the CF becomes extremely firm and it's hard to grind down the edges so using a disposable brush to apply to resin helps. Mixing the resin can also be a PITA because it's by weight not volume so good luck with that..

I ended up having to buy an exhaust pipe hanger kit from O'reily's for $5. I doubled up on the weak metal (I've had those rip off on other bikes) and sound's good as new with no leaks

next time providing some support from the inside will minimize that depression that shows on the last pic. you'll have to take the pipe apart to do it. aluminum foil won't stick, that can be your first layer. after that maybe some reasonably rigid paper product, i like manilla folders for patterns and such..

packing tape doesn't readily stick to resins either and can make a good peel ply.

Do you have any pictures of after you fixed it?
almost all of these pics are after it's finished

I don't care the depression. the main focus was to fix the leak, I don't care what it looks like and it's not noticeable when mounted anyway..

nice job brotha :thumbup, likin the inside of the shed shots :laughing
thanks for the rare barf optimism

beats buying a new one:thumbup
indeed, I got the pipe for $30 before it got messed up

you know you can get just the sleeves from yoshimura, right? :)
I'm sure you can but I got the CF and resin for free... beats buying a new sleeve and waiting for it to be delivered...

I know its all finished now but sanding and cleaning the surface with alcohol will get you better adhesion (although it might not need it in this application).

you're right, I hand sanded the whole area and cleaned with water

Wow! It's not every day you get to see a masterpiece like this. Thanks for the share.

I like how people are crapping on the cosmetics of the $30 pipe that the OP fixed for free (minus a few hours labor). Awesome work OP on making a semi-broken park work again for next to nothing. Sure beats spending a few hundred on a new pipe!

Maybe now that you saved the money you can spend it on some white leathers and repeatedly post pictures of yourself in said leathers.

+1 :thumbup

i think people wanna see a pic of the pipe side of the bike, as it sits today. the pics you posted are like right after a girl gets a boob job with the stitches still in there. people want the final, business as usual, shabang. not frankentits
