Has anyone ever owned one and then gotten the other?

Just curious to know what your thoughts are. I'm considering a 600 and I have a 1000.

My only real concern is if it will be able to handle the longer-trip abuse that I will throw at it.

600s can still go well over 100mph and mine was damn comfy.

Never fucked on it though.

Ridden a 600 to Cabo and back a number of times. Literbikes are getting damn near the size of 600s, so its more of a matter of how well the bike fits you not the cc's IMO. The only big difference Ive noticed when touring at high speeds, folks on liter bikes got better mpg than I due the higher gearing a stock literbike has.

I have a 06 cbr600 and I love it. but i wouldnt sell the 1000 i have either for it.

it is very nice not to have to down shift 3 gears to quickly get around a car vs a roll on 6th gear pass

a 600 will do 150+ mph a 1000 will do 180+

Difference would be that the 600 will be at higher rpms cruising. I rode my 600rr when I bought it back from sacramento to SF with no problems what so ever though.

Plus didn't your F4i get something like 12mpg?
:p

Had an 07 600RR and an 08 1000RR. If I had to pick one for a long ride, it would definately be the 1000, though both are comfy for a sportbike and uncomfortable for a touring bike. If I were primarily doing longer rides, I wouldn't ride either of them.

What year? Either one is fully capable of cross-country travel. It's the rider tolerance that determines your endurance. That said I rode my GSXR1000 from the Bay Area to Vegas and back.

Wouldn't want to do it again though.

I do 300 mile days on my 600 all the time, no problem at all.

Do you want the power and torque to come on big at 4000 rpm or 8000 rpm?

I did time on two different liter bikes. I had a CBR 929RR and a Zook TL1000R. Although the 929RR wasn't a true "liter" bike, it was plenty powerful and torquey. After that, I thought I'd try my hand at the fullsize v-twin. Although I enjoyed both bikes, I ended up going back to a 600 because I enjoy the flickability and light weight of the supersport bikes.

I ended up sticking with Suzuki and bought an '07 GSXR 600 new in 2007. I still love it.

If it's going to be a long-haul trip machine, why a sprotbile?

because i can, and I enjoy it.

I took my 1000rr on a 6000 mile journey through the backroads of the us during the month of july and i love tearing it up in the twisties on road trips too. Had a few 500+ mile days and the dude on the bmw RT that was with me wore out before I did.

the question is not about me being able to sit on a sportbike for tours. I know I can do it. The question is if the bike can handle it.

2006 CBR1000RR is what I have, I'm looking at a 2009 CBR600RR.

Thanks for the comment about tolerance. That is not an issue with me. My body can take whatever the bike can give me.

I've owned two liter bikes before I bought my 600 (an older 600 so I'm not sure if that really counts).
I had a cbr929, then my cbr1000. I occassionally ride my husband's ZX-10 which I think is torquey-fun, but the seat is hard as shit. (I think I like it better than my CBR, actually).

The 600, though, was like riding a whole different bike again. It turned quicker plus I had to shift more often. I'd almost red-line it. It really took me a while to get used to riding a 600. I'm not sure if I'd recommend one for longer trips though, but for twisties, it's much more fun.
Less hog to toss around.
Honda's are known for their comfyness though. :p
