cheap steel braided lines

Huh? All "stainless brake lines" are really teflon lines wrapped in stainless steel to give them some rigidity and protection from the outside. You couldn't skip that, or the fluid would come out :p

If you're thinking of the plastic outside the braid, that doesn't come into contact with brake fluid anyway.

edit didn't see the earlier post explaining the lines. Anyway I thought they were teflon, instead of nylon. Teflon hoses will not expand but they're thin and would kink at the drop of a hat, which the SS braid helps prevent. That, and the cutting problem.

Might be teflon, but it's a plastic-like tube, wrapped in SS, wrapped in plastic.

:thumbup

The situation is improving but there are definitely wares out of China (and other countries) that are completely non-functional and have just been made to look like the real thing. They could have just looked at a Goodridge lining and guessed the material, or they could have skipped it and shipped a cosmetic-only fake. I didn't say it would be functional in that case, I said you have no way of knowing what thought or engineering (reverse or original) went into the product.

Spose so. Personally I come down on the "name brand for brakes" side myself. Goodridge lines and recently Galfer discs. I want someone to blame if things go fubar :p

It's Teflon.

As a side note, if you ever stretch or kink the braided lines (whether during assembly, running too sharp a bend, or whatnot), it's done for, as this weakens the Teflon tube.

I wouldn't think twice about having them make me a CLUTCH line for me. brakes? probably not.

I'd still think twice about the clutch line as well. Being stranded on the road is no fun. Or worse, hot hydraulic fluid getting all over a hot engine can be exciting. Bring your hot dogs and marshmellows.

I used these without any issues:

Custom length and any angle banjo you need, just call and ask for Tyler.

Good service and a significantly better value than any other popular brand.

Good tip. I got in on a group buy from another site that had G&J make up a lot of stainless lines for our 919s. 4 years later, they're stopping hard and holding up great. I should have them make up lines for my enduros, too.

You could get a set and hook them up to those fake Chinese-made Brembo knock-off's. :p
