Cheating on the little bikes

Some of you may know me, I've been on barf for a very long time but for the last several years I've stuck to the minis section. However this weekend ive been cheating on the minis big time. I've put in 280miles in the last two days and no minis. Its a Ducati Hypermotard 1100 s and its stolen my attention.

I went out riding with a friend yesterday on his UberDuc while riding my DRZ400SM and it was the last straw. I was doing fine on my DRZ400SM riding amongst a superduke, zx10, R1 and your assortment of liter bikes until we hit some wide open spots. Then I surely missed my full size open class sport bike.

So ive been thinking of the hypermotard since they were released. I picked it up yesterday used with only 930 miles on it (used lol). I bought it from the 2nd owner of a line of guys that just wanted to try it out. I have since put 200+ miles on it over the weekend. 160 with my wife today ( what a trooper). The bikes amazing. Ive done a ton of different roads on it from your tight goat trails, to wide open sweepers. Still a lot to get used to. No joke that the Ape would smoke in in the super tight stuff, DRZ in many other specific section of roads.

So the DRZ is on the chopping block. All though im sure im still faster on it for the most part in many different roads but i think with the right amount of seat time ill get the pace up on the Hyper.

Funny, this is the first bike ive owned that there is absolutely nothing i want to modify on.

Just wanted to vent my happiness to the rest of the bayarea moto enthusiasts. . :teeth:ride:teeth:ride

I seem to remember you had a purple gixxer at one point, anyway that's besides the point, that bike is gorgeous, congratulations. :thumbup

YOU CHEATING BASTARD! :x

:twofinger

Seriously tho', she's a sexy beast. Like that of the singles, you gotta love the low end torque of the twin.

Awesome Brad!

And I also don't believe you won't mod anything on the hyper. :p

all you need now is this:

and you'll have a perfect motorcycle!

My biggest reason for NOT buying one, was the small gas tank. then this thing hits the market and I am kicking myself in the ass (although I do love my VFR) and yes, its a 6.4 gallon tank.

Holy shit, man. That's awesome, Brad.

If you want some garage space, I can get that ZB outta the way for you.

Ever seen one of those mounted on a Hyper? Just wondering if it changes the look of the bike at all.

I think flying_hun has it on his hypermotard, and I couldn't tell the difference when I was riding with him during the BARF Rally. Might wanna send him a PM.

Looks from some initial research on the tank it eliminates the air box and replaced it with pod type filters. Some people are saying that with the stock exhaust and ECU you end up with some hesitations in low RPM and throttle response is slightly effected. Others with aftermarket pipes and ECUs do not complain of these same issues. source>>ducati.ms forum

Still 6.4gal gas tank is freaking HUGE with out adding any aesthetic changes to the bike. Great idea but seems like it would take one down the one mod leads to another road.

Congrats, Brad. :thumbup I test rode one at the last IMS in San Mateo and it was a hoot. Does it already have the DP comfort seat? That's one mod you may want to consider.

Welcome to the dark side. :cool I haven't ridden one of those yet, but I'm sort of smitten with the StreetFighter that I violated last week and I totally leghumped the 848 I rode last winter. If the Hyper is anything like those, I'm guessing that you're going to have a good time.

there are mods, and there are fixes. IMHO, a bike like that without the fuel to put in its bellly is a crying shame.

its your ride to take what I say with a grain of salt, but that 6.4 gallons of fuel means longer funner days.

I bet if you adjusted the ECU you could overcome the throttle resonse issue without having to replace the exhaust.

PM the guy that has one, maybe he'll let you try it out, see if you like it.

I kid.

Congrats! If you are going to get something new and shiny, you sure picked a good one!!! Love those bikes.

Welcome to the circus, congrats, you're going to love it more and more every time. I wouldnt worry about the gas range, I usually do 200+ mile rides without any issues, there are gas stations everywhere.
You gotta remove the passenger pegs, looks cleaner and that fugly charcoal canister. Open Clutch FTW.
