I think a proper punishment would be hundreds of hours of community service at the ASPCA in which he is now the guy that has to put down all the puppies and kittens each weekend.

Quit being racist. This thread is about one particular incident. Some cops shot some kids dog for fun. They should fry. If the cute little kids started shooting at cops with their bb guns then no one would have a problem with them two kids and a dog being put down.
$300k has nothing to do with the economy. $300k ain shit. Emplying one cop for one year costs about $300k/yr here.
And (some) police authorities are smash and shoot happy with an immunity attitude. Blame it on a lack of appropriate accountability.
It's police policy to shoot at anything that scares you, like a wallet or cellphone.
