Hey everyone.. I hope this is the right spot to post this..

I am looking for a chin mount that can be 3d printed for the rf-1200. It has that nice looking (yet annoying) curve on it. I have looked at so many different options and its either partially adhered to the helmet, or side mounted with extensions and added weight/awkwardness. I've looked at a few different 3d printing sites, but haven't found a file to download. I was told by someone on here that they had one, but they disappeared after offering to email it to me.

Thanks in advance!!

A curved mount we'll work fine. Clean the surface well, and, if you so choose, apply pressure to it with a clamp. Easy peasy.

There was one on Thingiverse but the file is gone for some reason. I also read that 3D printing might shear if it's not printed properly so I decided to just use a giant arm instead.

I have a curve mount on the top of the helmet. Make sure you put it far enough back you can still open your faceshield all the way. The weight of the gopro gets annoying sometimes up there and you can definitely feel the wind resistance

I wouldn't bother with a 3D printed anything on a motorcycle, unless it was SLS printed with a quality material.

If you go with James' solution, make sure you do like he recommends and use the tether. You get an exponential decrease in adhesive pad strength when you narrow the mount like that.

you can print it in ABS using 1mm then use some acetone in a jar and it'll smooth it all out.. leaving a smooth surface.. That fixes all your problems

True, acetone treatment can certainly strengthen the bond between the Z layers, but it can also embrittle the ABS. Pair it with resin injection, and you might have a reasonably durable structure.

mine worked great, but I can't find the file on thingiverse either and my copies of the files are back in oakland and im away for the next few months.

The youtuber must have gone to crazy on the dremel because I was able to get mine to sit almost 100% against the Shoei. Just need to do it slowly.

This was a mockup with non permanent tape to see how it fit before I went with the 3M stuff. I also let it bake outside in 90 degree weather, held firm. The tether is a great idea, cuz I mean ****happens..

That turned out really clean. But yeah, tether it up.

Hi all! hopefully this isn't against the rules here but we do make a chin mount for the RF1200 and it is 3D printed. I personally have been using mine for almost two years with no issues and no degradation. Printed in ABS.

Anyway, they're over at hellmounts.bigcartel.com and we're working on getting discount codes to a few people as soon as we get that capability

If we were in the wrong putting this up here, just take it down :) We're just trying to help the community.

That was us. The model that was on Thingi was depreciated due to design flaws. We updated the model and now we sell them. No delam issues with 50+ units in the wild :)

Are you by chance related to THIS GUY?

:rofl

Works like magic.

This one is on my agv K3 (which is probably worst than the rf-1200), but I have them on my RF-1200 also, and it really works great.

I'll post a pic of the RF-1200 once I get the chance.

Sugru actually does work well but I've seen it degrade over time in other applications.
Funny, the K3 is on my desk right now waiting to have a mount modeled :thumbup
Nice setup!
Thanks for responding to my comments :)
Unfortunately those were previous versions that have a couple flaws in them - that's why they're not on Thingiverse. Anyway, just a note. Those models suck and don't adhere forever. FYI.
Glad I don't hand out our current model's data anywhere. :ride

So first off, I modeled those and they're my IP. Do me a favor and take them down :)

well, I downloaded it quite a while ago. I just modified the mounts myself to get them to work. I was curious why they had disappeared and figured it was something with the site transition.

I had no idea they were actually yours, as they were posted as open source files available to use that suddenly crapped out and I literally searched everywhere to find someone that made these. Do you have a site I can get these from? Feel free to PM me where I can get them as people ask me all the time for a source to get a mount like this and I have nothing to send to them.

I guess that explains their disappearance. Google wasn't much help when I looked into it either.:wow

edit: found it searching your username. Nice. Consider me a customer.
let me know when the airmada one comes out. I have one of those too that needs a mount. currently using side mount.

No problem! They did have some weird modeling issues and when we moved to V8 we ditched the models on Thingi. Originally they were posted as limited as the CC would allow (Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives) us but that expired. That V5/V6 set weren't ready for release yet.
They're available for sale @ HellMounts.bigcartel.com and we're working on getting discount codes to try and pass out, which we think would be pretty :cool to be able to do

We have been working on better SEO stuff :( Drop me a PM here if you want and we can try to hook it up :)
We also have a K3, Airmada, and "semi-universal" rear/tail mount in the works. Airmada should be released first, and shortly.
We're building on GoPro's functionality since their patent is expired.
