I can't find the thread about calling non-emergency numbers.

So, I couldn't remember if it was 1-800-Call CHP or Tell-CHP.

Having a smart phone, I asked, non-emergency number for CHP and it connected me. :nerd

In one ring, I was connected . Young guy answers (I'm gonna guess in training). I reported a man slumped over the wheel/passed out, possible 23152(parked/engine running/headlights on.) He asked me, is it a medical emergency? I said, last I saw him earlier, he was walking to his truck with an open bottle of crown royal.

So the primary Officer arrives, and after he wakes up the gang banger that is passed out, the SO rolls by and he gives the happy signal. Then two other CHP units show up.

I'm outside watching it all unfold and the dispatcher calls me direct on my cell for a few questions. I hear her say OTR- I'm on landline with the RP. I told her- I just heard her on the radio. :laughing -I'm John Doe, but I have pictures if the Officer needs them. She laughed, and I said, "thank you". She said thank you for what? I said dispatching, it's a tough job. :) I don't think she has heard a thank you in a while.:afm199

FYI, that line is 1-800-TELL-CHP and it goes to the CHP Sacramento Communications Center regardless of where you call from in the state. In a lot of cases asking Siri to call the CHP (non-emergency or otherwise) will get you the line to the CHP Headquarters front desk or some of our non-public lines (especially after business hours). This has become incredibly common recently.

We have over 100 Area Offices dispatched by 25 Communications Centers around the state and the correct one for where you are located will get the call directly if you call 911. Calling 911 will get the information to the people that can do something with it the fastest. When those calls come into my office I no longer try to figure out where the caller is, what Area Office boundary that location is in and what Comm. Center dispatches for that Area so that I can transfer the call. Now I just tell the callers to hang up and dial 911 because it is so much faster.

So that young guy you assume was in training is probably an officer that is assigned to a unit that has nothing to do with dispatching patrol units to calls.

Good on you for reporting the incident. I'm just giving you more information for the next time you need to report something. :thumbup

I used to have a Golden Gate CC direct dial on my phone when I lived in the bay area. I also had a brain fart and couldn't remember if it was (1-800) Call-CHP, Tell-CHP or We-TIPP.

So on my android I asked "OK Google" Non emergency number for CHP dispatch in Sacramento. It worked.

If I saw the guy about to pull away- I would have called 911.

The neighbor that tried to wake the guy up called county 311. CHP beat the SO for once.:p
