Clash of Clans

Koi, you have to learn to control timing and placement of troops during attacks in order to better control where they all go. Takes some practice, for sure.
 
So I just got the clan base thingy, and then read this entire thread and realized, I haz no idea what y'all are talking about :laughing

I've been playing for a few months and still feel pretty n00bish. I joined Steeler's war clan and I feel like crap because I've only meaningfully contributed to one war. Maybe I should join a farming clan for a while until I get better.

If you find a good n00b clan let me know. River Bend is a nice, fun group, but I hate being the anchor.
 
Well shit, I've been playing for only a few days.

Maybe i should have saved my money from buying the clan castle.

Nah, you did well by getting the clan castle. But, the biggest advice I have to give now is don't get used to using the gems. It'll end up costing you a lot of money in the long run if you get used to that little shortcut.

Also, in CoC it is generally advantageous to max, or get close to maxxing, everything prior to upgrading your town hall.

Also, it's not as much of an issue early on, but when you get up higher, try to plan it so that you have your gold and elixer storages maxed and builders free by the time your townhall is finished upgrading.

It totally sucks to have all this new stuff to build but no money to buy any of it and no builders to build them.
 
The thing that I hate the most is when you're there hitting next looking for the perfect base to attack, and you find it. The thing is an untouched abandoned base with 400K of gold and elixer sitting in the storages all outside the walls.

Then you accidentally hit next again....

I rarely use gems unless I'm anxious to get something for an attack, and even then I usually wait. Figure I'll want gems later so I try to save them now.

Got to a point that I've got to ignore the game for awhile and build up reserves in order to spend anything on upgrades. Figure I'll try to max out the elixer/gold mines before I upgrade my town hall again.

Or you go to deploy your first troop in the lower left corner and hit the 'End Battle' button...

When you attack a base, if you look in the top left hand corner, you can see how many trophies are available at that base. How many you get from that base will depend on how badly you kick his ass.

Three stars is the max you can get when you attack a base:
1 star for destroying at least 50% of his base
1 star for destroying his townhall
1 star for destroying 100% of his base

How many stars you get dictate how many trophies you get from the base.
 
This is why it was good for you to get the clan castle. You can't attack other bases until you have a clan castle.

You can do the goblin raids for now for practice. Then, whenever you're ready, you can start attacking in the Miltiplayer area. That's when it gets fun.
 
Ahhh, gotcha. So should I keep attacking goblin bases or go straight to multiplayer? or both?

Do both. You will eventually need to beat all the goblin bases. There is some seriously fat loot in there.

The big difference is that there is no time limit in the goblin raids while you get 3 minutes per base in the multiplayer raids. And, you can't earn trophies in the goblin raids.
 
So what happens when my shield is up? Am I going to just start getting raped by multiplayer? Seems that there isn't enough defenses available for what I'm going to encounter, especially if it's anything like the goblin bases I'm trying to attack.

When your shield is up, nobody can attack you. Essentially, you become invisible for however long your shield is up. But, that also means that if you attack now, it automatically kills your shield.

And, regarding getting raped in multi-player, people can select who they attack. Plus, Supercell set it up so that there is a huge cut in the amount of loot that higher level people can take from you. So, it's not even worth the effort for a lot of higher level people to even look in your direction. Nobody wants to waste troops on 500 gold and 500 elixer.

The more you play multiplayer the more you will come up with your own formula on how much loot will make a base worth attacking. Essentially, you want to steal a lot more than you spend on the troops that you use to attack a base. I don't know if you figured it out yet, but you lose all the troops that you use in a raid regardless of whether or not they survive the attack.
