I visited the Kisailus lab about a year ago, and they have a wall filled with mantis shrimp tanks. The plexiglass is probably an inch thick. The lab is focusing on the development of body armor using the structure of shrimp's "club" as a template. Neat stuff, and the students were exceptionally enthusiastic about their research. Easily the most excited bunch of chemical engineers I've encountered.

I'd like some of those shrimp, steamed, with a soy ginger dip.

This is why I'm a bit of an environmentalist, there are unique structures and compounds out there in nature of HUGE potential benefit, yet we drive species extinct every day never knowing what they had to offer. Reefs and rainforest are the most diverse, yet fastest disappearing biospheres. Take note!
