Compare and Contrast ex500 vs GS500F

The GS is notorious for being a cold-blooded bike. Until the engine is really warm, it just doesn't like to run smooth. A rejet is definitly in order. It is a 16 year old engine design.

I prefer the more sporty ergo's of the EX over the standard GS as well. With the GS being fully faired this year it will cost more to replace dinged fairings.

I would go with the EX. I would also get a used and pre-battered one. They are abundant and cheap on the used market. Handling is good, easy on tires. Get the pre-scuffed kind and save bigtime.

New or used?

EX has more motor. GS has the better chassis. The new one has the full fairing.

More concerned with starting on a lighter bike than a less expensive one? Wait a year and see if the Aprilia 450 makes its way over :)

Dude, we just got one of those at Scuderia. Aprilia wants to see how much interest it'll raise, and if it's a viable bike to import!!!!

just kidding.

Go with the EX, and yes, get a used and beat one if she plans on moving up to something else.

:wow ...
damn you!
:twofinger :p

I love my EX! Sporty, but with a more upright riding position. Sounds great at 10,000 rpm! Cruises on the highway without over-exerting itself. Won't inadvertently pitch-a-bitch (wheelie) on you. When you make a mistake, you can say "Oops!" intead of "Oh, shit!" Engine is easily accessible. A great first bike!
