Considering for my next bike

Yamaha V star FTW!!!! I had my V-Star 1100 classic for 5 years and 50,000 miles. It was an awesome bike. I never had one problem with it, I always did my own maintenance cause It was super easy, unlike my current bike. The bike had good power and torque for a mid size cruiser. The V Star has the better sounding exhaust note IMO. I could top out at an amazing 115mph! It got there fast though lol! I had HK big straights along with and ORK, POD Kit and PCS front end, I thought it was a sick bike.

You can't go wrong with the Yamaha or Kawi cruisers. Both engines are bulletproof. The Hondas are just as good, but for some reason their gas mileage is significantly lower than their comparable competitors. The Suzukis are good deals, but I get the feeling that the build materials are of cheaper quality.

Given the choice, which I had, I went with Yamaha, but the V-Star. The steering was more neutral than the other cruisers, the handling, with pegs, was much better, and the seat was far superior to the Vulcans. The only downside is the wet clutch. Finding oil without friction modifiers in the middle of nowhere can be tough, although I have never needed to.

So you are looking at all the Harley knock off, but not interested in a Harley? :x

Take look at one at least, if your looking at cruisers good look at the real deal first.

BTW- Harley's have outstanding reliability these days. I can't believe after all the Harley bashing threads round here, people still stick to the late 70's early 80's stigma. :thumbdown

Not a cruiser rider but have read good things about the Road Star Warrior.

My friend is selling his Warrior and I would be all over it if I had the money. Such an awesome bike. Power, handling, looks, it is fantastic (considering it is a cruiser).

He can out ride most sport bikes in the twisties on that bike, and it is awesome to watch.

with all the cruiser threads lately, i've been asking for a cruiser section on teh barf..:x

i'd skip the kawasaki and look at the yamaha roadstar but the roadliner is quite impressive in it's own right...

there's ton's of accessories for the roadstar....

mc109 is a different category...kinda in the sport muscle bike class...

the roadstar warrior is pretty awesome....

A stock harley is actually reliable: doctors and lawyers do not like vehicles that break down all the time.

Harley's rep I believe comes from two factors: A) they USED to be unreliable POSs

b) Too many owners do unspeakable things in the name of modifying them.

you can find brand new left over Roastars for less than $9500 OTD but they are still carb'd...the new ones are fuel injected so many of the accessories will just bolt right up...

for the warrior, it's discontinued so there aren't too many aftermarket support for it and each year is getting less and less but if you want the sporty side, get the warrior...it's not as fast as a vrod on a straightline but in the twisties, it'll start leaving it behind ...so it depends on you....going straight line to the next starbucks or actually riding a motorcycle...:p

the VTX1800 has been discontinued but there's still plenty of followers and aftermarket support....the brakes are linked, the fuel injection is smooth, handling really depends on WHICH VTX1800 cuz they EACH handle differently...the REtro, the Custom, the tourer...? if you want a good handling 1800, the C or F model is what you are looking for...it's true fuel mileage kinda suffers due to short gearing so some people get the vtx1300 findal drive for taller gears...they are heavy mofos though but if you use the the forks as leverage, then it's not hard picking it up off the stand...suspension is kinda soft set up for comfort than aggressive riding...

but i'd pick the Roadliner over the 1800...it hides it's weight better, much more clearance than the 1800s and even smaller 1300s, plenty of grunt and awesome brakes for a big cruiser...you will want wind protection cuz it makes you sit on top of the bike and your arms are spread out and exposing your chest into the open air...tank sits wide so your legs will be like you're visiting a gynecologist...

the vtx1800 is a luxury cruiser...

Cuz its a sport bike forum and most don't care how reliable they are. Duh !! :laughing :laughing

If the central valley and so-cal have their own sections on a Bay Area based forum then I see no reason why the cruisers can't have their own section on a sport bike forum. :thumbup

Not sure why things need to be bifurcated. Why can't we all coexist/interact peacefully in one big happy forum instead of little insular ones? One of the nice things about BARF in general is that it's an insanely wide cross-section of folks.

My :2cents !

:rofl

in a perfect world, that would make sense but this is teh barf...

hell, it even needs a ninja 250 and a turbo busa section of their own just to calm the natives around here at times...

now that's the norm of barf...:rofl

:welcome

you'll love it here..

just to keep it on topic, may wanna find out each models maintenance intervals to suit your needs..

the honda vtx13/18s are at every 8,000 miles unlike the vt1100s which were practically maintenance free..the magna are 16000 and indestructable...

depending on which yamaha, like the 650-1300, the maintenance are every 6,000 miles while the roadstar/roadliner/rs warrior are at 16,000 miles..

some cruisers are a PITA to remove the rear wheel in which the exhaust may need to be dropped..can be a difference if you do your own wrenching or not...

some of the yamaha's you need to take the seat off to check the oil whereas the hondas , harleys you just use the dipstick...
