Ok, So I'm looking at a Ninja 300 that's for sale private party. It's a 2013. It's been down (scratches on the pipe, scratches on the right bar end, and a piece of broken plastic on the left side). small crack in the dash display. It rides fine. Carfax shows an accident, but not a total loss. The only thing I can't figure out is this:

The rest of the bike is stock. On the right handle bar, there is a reservoir with a breather on it. I'm ASSUMING that this is a brake fluid res? But why in the world is it there?!! The guy says the previous owner put it on. Why is it there? Did the guy bust something major when he put the bike down ? Some opinions /advice on this would be great and much appreciated.

you mean that there's a tube coming out of the brake reservoir?

Is it round or rectangle? The stock one is a rectangle so yeah the owner probably busted it and replaced it with one from another bike?

looks like this a bit http://pirateslair.net/150B040%20mHi.jpg

but there is a breather tube on it too.... or at least i think that's what it is.... it's on the right bar like this one, and it's clear like this one....

Is there a CL ad for this bike? It sounds like the OG was busted and he replaced it with a round one and the breather is a brake line....

This bike has some issues. I would look elsewhere.

If it is indeed a result of it going down, it this a deal breaker? The price is certainly right, so I expect some issues, but I don't want to get in over my head.....Like I said, it wasn't a total loss, so I fee like the damage probably wasn't THAT bad.... But I don't know....

Maybe previous owner just wanted something that's easier to see levels/liquid colour. Who knows. If it's concern take it to a shop and let them check it out.

Price is well below "going rate" on CL for a bike that hasn't been down. That's a good idea on taking it to a shop, hadn't really thought of that. Is that something that people are willing to do generally? I know it's common on cars, but not sure about bikes.

ive had my fair share of buying crashed bikes only to find out that there was more tweaked than i could have assessed during a test ride / inspection (ie: slightly bent forks, etc).

if the bike has been down, i would expect no hanky panky fixes. otherwise walk away. you should feel completely comfortable in dealing with a responsible, forthcoming seller. even if it costs a little bit extra, that could go a long way.

Yeah, this is good advice. Its priced to sell most likely because that's what they're hoping to get for it. Best to look elsewhere.

:thumbup I've never had a problem finding totally perfect, used bikes.
No reason to buy anything that will look suspicious to the person you will be selling to....later.
