Cost to build a Kart track ??

Factor in junior getting hurt, Daddy getting a Dirt bag Attorney for the lawsuit that will solve all his financial worries...
And the cost is a bit higher than paving :laughing

I'm gonna guess about 100k for a bare bones track. Remember, you've got to grade it, pave it, put in safety stuff like tires and the like. It all ain't cheap.

Now here's an idea. Instead of paving it, just keep it dirt. Buy your own tractor so you can maintain it. Then put dirt tires on the carts. Years ago when Baylands Raceway was still running, I remember going there on a Saturday afternoon and what to my wondering eyes should appear? Fast carts with dirt tires and roll bars haulin' ass around the speedway oval. It looked like a real hoot. The first thing I thought of was why not make it a road course?

I gotta believe it is a lot more than you guys are estimating here. I recall seeing the costs associated with laying a 1/4 mile of new asphalt street and it was insane. My guess is that you're looking at over $1 mil to lay down a real cart track.

Plus, the land would be a bit of change and would need to be pretty rural unless you're prepared to rip it out in the not too distant future.

Our local Go-Kart club is dealing with just this situation trying getting a kart track built @ Laguna Seca. 2 million was number being thrown around as a starting point. Ya gotta figure enviro testing, grading, drainage, utilities etc...
Not what I'd call cheap by any means.
Then Factor in Insurance too!

Release of liability waiver ?

But much of this red tape stuff is required for it to be a commercial facility ... I would imagine you can atleast skip enviro testing if its in your backyard.

You would think, until your neighbors call the county and the inspectors come out and see that you cut down some special tree and you owe them 50k for that and have to tear up everything.

You're better off digging a dirt track for 100-150cc dirt bikes like Rich Oliver

very expensive. paving is not cheap. i wanted to do this years ago when i was into drifting. build a small drift circuit like the ones they have in Japan. but alas, too expensive.

Even in your own backyard, if you want to pave it, you have to get an environmental impact report, pay for surveys, pay for permits.

Dirt tracks are the way to go, but even then. . . .

one of the former NBSR guys who lives in the middle of BF nowhere on a huge property got into trouble for a dirt track. His neighbors complained, and the county got him on some kind of "changing the natural drainage" bullshit.

You actually think that prevents getting your ass sued off? It may sound like it's carved in stone, to Joe Shmoe in a parking lot...But see what an Attorney can do in a court room with a jury.

+1

screw making it a business, make a barebones one for you and ur friends in your backyard. When i started this thread i was never thinking of it as a business.... just for my own selfish use:laughing

So much for "private" property. :x

I have farm with 25 acres of land, a mile of asphalt and live next to an airport. My sister owns an asphalt paving company. We even have our own Traxxis RC race track.
I also run a high risk sport facility and yup, i have thought about adding a little mini track somewhere too. but even with 32 years of tractor grading experience and inside lines on great deals for aggregate and asphalt paving, here's the snags:
Code:

What law would you be violating ? Especially if its private use and not commercial ?

I would imagine its akine to riding golf carts around your property which plenty of people with acres of land do.
Zoning codes. People think that owning land means that you can build what you want and do what you want?! Wrong:laughing
Yup you need enough acreage so the neighbors cant see or hear :laughing
They will always hear a 2 stroke. I live next to an airport but the 2 stroke makes more noise than a cessna.
i would think under 100k ? I dont know anything about paving. I think they price by ton, not by square feet.
Nope. It's by the foot not the ton or yard. Based on a 12 foot swtah and depending upon depth and compaction, base prep and aggregate base prepping. I have had a dollar a square foot jobs turn out better than the 5 a square foot jobs just due to poor work or poor prep.

Insurance and hold harmless, but as Tharkun mentioned, yes, a liability release won't protect you in the event of negligence or an attractive nuisance.

Not legally. You'd need a variance and enviro impact reports and lots of other filings. But country folk dont always follow the rules either, lol.

I have a Rich Oliver style dirt track in my back yard. Run 4 stroke 125 bikes so they aren't as noisy. Don't ride every single weekend. The neighbors are sort of far away. Nobody bothers me. I was seriously thinking about paving an acre and using that to teach folks to ride like a motor officer, to have pocket bike racing, and to run some go carts on for me and the kids. The cost was way too much and it would have taken me forever to recoup my investment via teaching. So its still a dirt track and still a great time.
