Couple questions regarding weight of the xr & drz4

I just spent the whole graveyard shift reading on this subject, and couple questions come to mind regarding the weight.

1- Why is the xr600/650 called a PIG (B.R.P.) if both bikes are so very similiar in weight?
2- How are they so similiar in weight when one has a bigger motor? Does being water-cooled and two radiators weight that much?
3- is it safe to say if all things were equal; same c/r, cam specs and suspension, shouldn't the xr be the top performer in all catagories?
4- is there a reason why the XR does not have its own sticky?

1. what's a b. r. p. ?
2. motor displacement makes little difference in weight. the piston is slightly larger, maybe the conrod is slightly longer. frame, subframe, seat, electrics, and yes, water, make more of a difference.
3. putting power to the ground, controllably, is paramount. better suspension rules the road.
4. don't know.
5. i may not know what the fuck i'm talking about.

Which XR? XRL, XRR, XR400?

1. DRZs are more commonly known as BBLAP, BYP, BWP, BBLUP or in some rare instances, BGP.
2. Completely different bikes.
3. All things are not equal.
4. If every bike had a sticky, there would be about 50 stickies. There are tons of DRZs out there since they are cheap and come from the dealer in SM trim.

Why does a Monster 1000 perform differently than a 996? They weight the same and the engines are the same size.

Rode both [that is if by Big Red Pig you mean XR650R] and indeed the 400 feels a lot lighter and more nimble.
I think it is because the XR was designed as a desert racer. Has a chassis geometry that favors stability at high speed versus nimbleness.
Also it feels like more weight up top.
Personally I'm not a fan of the XR-R/SM. Besides the relative lack of agility the motor feels slow revving and has huge engine braking.
If you want more motor than the DRZ I'd recommend the Huski 610.

The XR650R is kickstart only, the XR650L and DRZ is electric start. The difference between the XR650L and the XR650R is like comparing a motocross bike to a trail bike. The DRZ has a lot of aftermarket parts available and a huge SM following. There are a lot more DRZ supermotos out there than XR650's. A few years ago, SMUSA even had a DRZ class to race just for DRZ owners. A very versatile street-motard. The XR650's are harder to handle on kart tracks and in the dirt.

how so? i hear these sort of things but maybe because i'm a big guy i don't really notice (6'5" 225lbs)...

my BRP RIPS....with my 15-47 gearing i can do power wheelies in 4th gear....I take it to stockton and infineon kart tracks and i have a lot more learning to do before i can say that i can outride the bike....650R is the way to go....

i love my BRP and cant compare it to a DRZ i also owned a Sissneros built 470drz! and like the XR way better!
but its all to each is own!

For a smaller guy they are a little on the heavy side. I'm only about 5'10" 145lbs. I had an XR650L w/17's for the street. I loved it but prefer a smaller bike for dirt. I, personally, would own an XR650 for the street before a DRZ400. I like the power and top end. If I were to chose between the two for a race/track bike for supermoto, probably a drz400. If I were racing AFM in the formula singles, XR650. I wish that I still had my old '93 XR650L w/54 horses, it would be a lot of fun on the big track at Infineon!! I have a friend with an XR650R w/17's and a CR500 front end that is plated for the street. It is a fun bike, I won't admit it to him but probably more fun than my old XRL!:thumbup

Nice XR Poma!! I like the wheels. What are they from?

Thanx! the wheels are cbr F2 mags that were machined to fit the pig!
