Cracking down on critical mass, hilarity will ensue.

I have no issue that cyclists think they are 'entitled' to use the road and create traffic jams like every other road user. Because they are so entitled, that's the point.

Critical Mass started as a response to the 'get-off-the-road' mentality that is prevalent in this country and in a community as supposedly left-leaning as SF.

You don't like it when a single cyclists occupies his lane? Let's see how you like it when a bunch do.

It's the other road users that need to learn to share, once that happens on a day to day basis, CM will fall off as cyclists don't see the need.
You're very mistaken there. It's been years since there was any real message shared by the participants of Critical Mass. From what I've seen, when I"ve been unfortunately enough to being around when they practice their crap, it is mostly just a bunch of @ssholes that like the feeling of power over others to do WTF they feel like with impunity.

The people who had a real and valid message have mostly stopped riding in it as it became filled with @ssholes.

Ok now I'm getting an idea of the purpose of CM. The purpose is a valid cause.

You need to understand that I do not live in nor do I commute in SF.

I'm completely unbiased and an outside perspective.

My opinion is that the means to your end needs to be tweaked a bit.

I think as a group that CM should demonstrate to other motorists that sharing the road is a possibility. I feel that the CM confrontations only contribute to the city dwellers perception that sharing the road is not a possibility. Many times goodwill and a demonstration of cooperation (compliance with basic traffic laws) will gather more support and compassion for the cause and create a faster means to the end and a longer lasting positive relationship for sharing the road.

My :2cents
You make a good point. But I can't think of a way to demonstrate that will get the "entitlement minded powered vehicle driving road users" to share the road.

One would have thought they'd see the error of their ways after the first CM.

This^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

There is no statement or message anymore. There is only a monthly get together to cause as much disruption as possible with no validity towards any kind of dialogue that would help cyclists in general.

When you get on "People Behaving Badly" with Stanley Roberts there's a reason you've already lost the sympathy of the public. I've never seen one story of his where he was wrong.:x

That's a reasonable observation.

And if it weren't for the anti-cycling attitudes that I see so prevalent, I might join you in decrying the tactics.

I say CM everyday for the likes of people that get pleasure from posting up a picture of someone being run over and killed. A person such as that can suffer in traffic for all eternity for all I care.

It sucks when somebody you can't stand is so right all the time. :party

That's the funniest shit you said in like forever. If majority were thinking like you we would be like Venezuela. A third world shitholle.

I've been on moto group rides where a rider will hold up cage traffic at a stop light or stop sign so the group of riders can stay together.
Is this any different?

Then the motorcyclists are also being douche nozzles in that case. Pull the fuck over and let traffic flow. What's so hard about 'I'll stay out of your way, you stay out of my way?"

Actually because of people who think like him CA is in the shitter and almost bankrupt.

Actually, as is evidenced by the responses on this board, I'm very much out of the mainstream.

By extrapolation, it's people like you that make up the mainstream, therefore it's people like you that are responsible for the state of the State on every level.

Sorry to burst your boogieman bubble.

Are you saying that Kalifornia run by conservatives?

Actually you are wrong...again. Take a look at your views, then take a look at Greece.

.

CM itself made the attitude I currently have about cyclists, before CM, I thought that cyclists were cool. They're not. Nothing grates on people's nerves more that stupid, rightous idiots ramming their narrow viewpoint down their throats. CM is the Westboro Church of bicycling!!:laughing

Stupid, or rightous, pick one!!:laughing

I thought the topic of conversation was California.

So you are saying that me, the guy that gets shit every day that he posts for being so far out of the mainstream is responsible for the mess that California is in because of what's going on in Greece?

Lemme see. Did Goldman Sachs have anything to do with engineering a meltdown in Greece? Or was that Lehman?

You know why, as a cyclist, I have NEVER had a problem with a cage? Because I NEVER take up a full lane. That would be completely assinine of me, since I would just be a speed bump in everyone's way. I do my best to stay out of the way, and use designated bicylce lanes where available. Voila! Drama-free riding. And I've lived in SF for over 15 years now.

Cyclists that insist on using a full lane can kiss my unwiped ass. Seriously. They rank right up there with the dickwads who drive 60mph in the left lane. CM will never, ever, get any sympathy from me. :hand

There are times when it is appropriate to use your full lane.

As a cyclist, who gets to determine when those times are, you or the guy in the car behind you?

That's what I'm saying.

Sorry, I guess I gave you more credit than you deserve for understanding macro economics and being able to see the parallels between Greece and CA. I won't make that mistake again.

from a Darwinian stance, the car always win.

Right or dead right.

And what I'm saying is, because I refrain from acting like a dilwad, this issue hasn't come up for me. YMMV. :|
