Heads up, just found TWO of my credit cards with phony charges for $49.95. From :

888-409-8797.COM WESTON FL

My last one was for $199 in Aurora, CO. Got my card number skimmed from a card reader at a gas station in Utah I suspect. :dunno

The pain in the ass thing about it was I was on a business trip and had to switch to my own cards. Extra paperwork on the expense report in addition to the credit card report, but no money lost on my end.

:dunno

Yah, I've got a list of monthly charges I have to move.

Riddle me this... I write almost zero checks. Someone somehow got my routing and acct #'s and created two fake checks, which were used to purchase crap with my money.

Broseph's name was nowhere close to mine, different address and one had a bank name different than the routing number.

How the Eff does this happen?

amnu:
1)do you use chase bank, in fact they were cyber attacked
2)did you ever type your bank numbers anywhere else such as on payment systems

3) people do rummage through thrash to find checks supposedly. Not sure where but supposedly happens

do you have autopay set up with your checking acct? Hackers could have pulled your routing and acct numbers from the merchant's autopay service.

Hmmmm.... suppose that is a possibility.

No, not Chase. Still, this makes sense. What's bizarre is that this is local. Most of the fraud I've dealt with in the past has been from Europe.

With stolen CC#s, sometimes the buyer of the stolen CC#s will try to use them in the same city or near the billing address to avoid the bank's fraud detection system. It's a possibility the same logic would apply to a stolen checking acct#.

edit:
on the other hand it could be a straight up theft where someone physically saw your checkbook and copied the #s. Happened to a friend way back when she was in college before the interweb hacking days.

I suppose that makes sense, tho this fucker is obviously local cuz he used them at a grocery store and an office supply store. In person, not mailed.

In the past, it's been some hacker in Germany or some shiz doing the $.98 transaction to see if it's live and that ish gets locked down in a hurry.

Don't get why the banks can scan checks and get the amount right, but can't see that a check has a different name, address, signature, and even bank than mine.

cops arrested a man the other day in Illinois

He had one of my credit cards on him, amongst other peoples... only I had that card physically in my wallet. :|

It appeared he hadn't used it yet and since it was attached to my checking account which has all of $30 in it. I wasn't too worried. But looks like I need to get a new one (bank is already sending it)

With all this fraud running rampant how effective are these monitoring services (Life Lock, etc.)?

Home Depot hackers got Credit Card numbers since April this year. Having bought stuff on a credit card, wondering if its bad enough to get a new card number.

When the Target scam happened - Chase preemptively sent everyone, that had shopped at Target and used their card there during the affected time period, new cards.

As did my credit union. Not sure if they will do the same for Home Depot.
