Hi,

Just purchased a Honda CRF 50 for my son, while reading the manual it shows the weight limit is 89 lbs?

Now I see a lot of adults ride these things and wanted to know if the bike can handle more than 89 lbs.

Thanks,
XP

SUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRREEE you bought it for your son. ;) :twofinger

I'm not sure what the true weight limit is on a stock 50 but I'm putting around with mine now as is stock. You can get HD springs for the front and rear to beef it up. After doing my research, I decided to go with a full after market spring/shock assembly for the rear to support my fat ass. Over 180lbs now. I'm bottoming out like crazy on my 50 right now just going up a driveway. :(

You can defintely adult proof the 50 for yourself. But I'm not sure what the proper balance will be if you really intend for your son to be using it. How old and big is your son?

LOL, yah I may take a quick ride around for a......... couple of hours or so.. lol, hahahhaaa..

Yeah, my son is 8 years old and weighs about 85 lbs. He rides it pretty good but if I wanted to jump on it, I just wanna make sure my fat ass don't break the dayam thing.

So, anyone here care to tell how much weight they put on their xr50 or crf50? Anyone double up on this thing, if so, how much weight all together? I know these things are better built than suzuki, yamaha or kawasaki.

I really wanna try to keep it stock till he gets bigger then i'll do the lift kit and the bigger handle bars.

Kids do grow fast so if I were you, do the suspension mods.

What suspension mods are you suggesting? I'm kinda new to the xr/crf50's so any additional help would be great.

If possible, a link to a site would be great!

and the link to all manufacturers: http://www.50ccracing.com

I'm not sure what would be best to make it adult proof but still usable and friendly enough for your kid to use. Maybe an ishock with a 150lb spring so that you can upgrade to the stiffer 250lb spring later....

I rode my buddies 50... I'm 230 with my gear on :) He's 130 if he covers himself in lead. I was surprised the suspension didn't just bottom out and stay there, but it was pretty well compressed.

Hey dspyder, I'm about the same weight as you. I rode it around stock up hill and this little thing hauls arse..

I'm getting a new rear shock and spring today so hopefully it'll be stiffer.

ive been riding street on a semi stock one for a while now, just bars, springs, and fork lowers. Its holding up fine for street abuse, wheelies, endows, etc.

I have another one that i ride dirt and jump on and thats a different story. Chromoly frame, Sano front end, ishock rear, HD spokes, WPR rims. Im pretty sure if i jumped my street one the frame would bend. It started to just before i built my dirt 50.

FYI. CycleGear sells upgrades for the XR50/CRF50. But I'm sure your Honda dealer can get 'em for you too. Tons of online vendors as well.

its all about Zoomcycle in Santaclara when it comes to picking up aftermarket stuff from a local shop, those guys really know there shit about 50s, and there prices kick the shit out of any honda dealer, or cyclegear.

I rode the piss out of mine bone stock, and I weigh 180

My 180 ass is still riding mine:teeth

Word is though the aftermarket springs help the big kids play, mine came with them so I can't say the difference.

dont hang out with brad...you'll end up with a blinged out 50 and an empty wallet

Well, picked up the bike yesterday and it's fricken bad ass.

When I sat on the stock shock before it compress allllllll the way down... Now, with the new shock, it only goes down a little bit.

I'm not sure what brand, a friend bought it a while back and never installed it on his CRF50. All I know it's adjustable and it works really well....
