Dakar 2026 - Spoilers Possible

Looks like Neels had a rough go on the prologue. Sounds like he had to push his Kove over 2km to the finish line. I’m happy to see that Mason found a ride outside of the Kove this year. Hope he can string together some good stages this year.

And the starting grid for stage 1 is set.
Sanders going last of the fast 16.

The winner should come from that group.

Well the young gun does it again.

CANET GIVES AN ENCORE

  • The young Spaniard Edgar Canet, who claimed the Rally2 title last season, followed up his prologue win in Yanbu with another barnstorming performance in his debut at the top level. The KTM rider bagged stage 1 and tightened his grip on the overall lead.
  • Ross Branch was the fastest competitor in the 305 km special, but a 6-minute penalty for speeding cost him victory.
  • The stage podium is a carbon copy of yesterday's, but featuring wider margins. Edgar Canet defeated the last two winners of the Dakar, putting 1′02″ into his Red Bull KTM Factory Racing teammate Daniel Sanders and 1′32″ into their Monster Energy Honda HRC rival Ricky Brabec.
  • The Rally2 special saw the prolific Michael Docherty claim his eleventh win in the class on his KTM, beating the rookie Martim Ventura and his Honda, who had spent most of the stage in the lead but came up short in the final dash to the line, by 1′28″.

this is a fun vid … at about 4:50 minutes it gives a racer’s view, with the road book tulip he’s supposed to be looking at to make the next navigation adjustment to stay on course. guess he gets up to 204 kph (126 mph) which I don’t know if I believe:

watching it, however fast he’s going, I was all like “nope, not me.” :facepalm :laughing

(I googled it, and top racers go about 105 mph? so I’m just misunderstanding the view of the road book that’s shown near the end, I guess.)

30:50 is an interview with Mr. Dakar. I understand just enough French to enjoy it.
