Stage 10 looks an odd one on paper and it will be an early one starting at 3:30am for the first riders facing a long liaison of 623km to the timed special start. The special is a “deliberately short” 114km as we head deep into the sand of the Empty Quarter.

Stage 11 is the first part of the ’23 Dakar’s only marathon stage. Rider face the Empty Quarter for a few days of “nothing, just empty sand seas and dunes” which means it can be hard mechanically but no so much on the tyres and mousses as we’ve seen in previous years. It is a part of the rally which can be a dream or a nightmare for competitors who then must face a night alone in a tent on the desert floor after prepping their own bike.​

my friend and BARFer, Mr tractorking, tells me there are 11 Americans in the Malle Moto Class (Originals by Motul) for the 2023 Dakar … :flag

five of them are on the American Rally Originals team.

“The “Malle Moto” class (now called “Original by Motul”) takes this race to another level. All racers must do this event with minimal to no support - allowed only one trunk (80 Litre box) of gear. The racers must sleep in tents, maintain and repair their own motorcycles and are allowed no support outside of fellow competitors.”

The Kove 450 Rally … “Its 500X ADV ranks first in domestic ADV production and has two factories in Chongqing and Chengdu.”

Kove will have a two racer team: “KOVE also held a racer selection competition to choose racers to represent China and appear on the world stage with a Chinese motorcycle.”

#81, Mr Ming Ji Fang, won the Kove competition, I guess … can’t seem to come up with the second Kove entry. :dunno
