Dealing with glare

I was coming over 9 this evening into the setting sun, and as I came around this 1 turn the sun hit my visor and blinded me. I held my line and kept my eyes wide open and searching, but I couldn't see. The turn radius changed, and so I blew the DY.

Is there any good way to fight glare when you can't avoid riding into the sun? I was wearing a light smoke visor with a pair of orange tint goggles under the visor, so it's not like it was painfully bright, but it still blinded me.

Electrical tape across the visor to make a sunshade. Looks ghetto, works great. You get sudden sun and just tilt your head forward. Won't work if the sun is right on the horizon, but is great for everything but. Use the 3M stuff with adhesive that doesn't leave a residue in case you decide to ditch it.

I have a Shoei Hornet, I'm not sure how a Suomy would help. Blankpage, that lid is pretty kickass, but I don't think it'd improve things for me.

Yeah this is the case of the sun being at eye level.

You could head to ANY local window tinting shop, And ask if they could give you a piece of scrap. Or even have them tint the top inch of your visor.

I've asked a couple of shops, and even slid them $20 to do it.

Helps more then you could ever imagine.

Polarized Oakleys work pretty well for me...even when the sun's right at the horizon in my face I can see if I just squint a little, it reduces the glare a ton.

Less ghetto is Scotch Plastic Tape (that's the actual brand name). You can get it at OSH and similar places. It is made for indoor decorative use and comes in several colors. I've found that it lasts literally for years. If you shop around, you can find it in 1.5in width that is perfect for visor application.

There's a big difference between the problem of glare and the problem of direct sunlight. A tinted visor can manage glare--reflected sunlight--but it cannot block direct sunlight.

:thumbup Electrical tape.. Its the only thing I'll use. Fuck buying a $50 visor and keeping it with you.. I tried that once... Tape works as well and its cheap.

What makes the Suomy Ultra Tech visor different from other shields is it's additional infrared and hydrophobic coatings.

Anti-glare at it's best. :thumbup

sometimes... if your shield is all fuxored from cleaning it improperly (making those tiny little scratches), the sun can really screw with your vision.

This can also happen if your shield is just plain dirty.

Clean your shield properly! If it's scratched, go get a new one. Clear shields are cheap!

Just so we're on the same page, my cam caught a bit of it. It was like this, but worse inside my helmet:

My visor is still new, and clean, but I will take your advice Rob and clean it again right now :)

The Suomy visors sound pretty cool, but I can't go out and get another fancy helmet right now. Thanks for the tip though :)

I used regular Scothc Magic Tape, the frosty stuff, on the inside at the top of my visor. Can't see it from the outside, allows light through, blocks glaring sun.

Tilt your noggin a fraction and the bright light is gone.

Look down to the side and find the yellow or white lines. If you dont have the tape, sometimes just tilting your head down can help. Also, when cleaning your lens, don't make circles with the cleaning cloth.

Golden Gate Cycles sells static cling tint that sticks to the top of your visor. Give is an even darker strip of sun protection. I have it at the top, I just tilt my head down when needed. Pics available on request.

Mr Pepsi, pics would be cool!

Everyone else, thanks for the ideas :) I'm gonna try 'em and see what works best!

Using a tinted visor is the best course of action, or tinted sunglasses (may be less comfortable).
