Incorrect.
I think that K8 refers to the generation of GSXR being purchased, not the year.

Like my SV650S is technically a SV650SK1.
Although, it is a 2001.

Maybe you're right after all, and Suzuki is trying to be trend-setting.

a 2007 bmw k1200r's generation code is k43...

All gixxers models after 2000 are designated by a K and the year they were sold. I have a K5.
