Dilbert comic, writer made some racist rant, now off my local paper

I had no idea when I posted that this slogan was associated with the assholery. If poll subjects knew of this connotation, well, that’s another thing.

yea its some 4chan bullshit

as far as im concerned, 4chan has had negative impact on society

Yeah it sucks how extreme of a life we'd need to live in order to not fund ugly stuff. I wish it were easier.

Meh, I utterly accept without complaint that life and humanity in general is brutal, ugly, unjust, and cruel. I do not wish the world to be anything other than what it is.

Improvement comes only from within the self.

Back in the day I was a big Larson fan.

Dilbert never resonated with me.

Nihilism ftw..?

Not typically. Nihilism suggests self improvement is meaningless and without value.

Much more I could be considered an existentialist. Both kind of present the truth that life is meaningless and ideas of "good" and evil" are based on human constructs, but they go in different directions after that where nihilists tend to reject all meaning and purpose as impossible to define in any purposeful way, and existentialists believe the individual can create meaning through personal choices and free will that hold value for the individual, which in no way implies those existential definitions hold meaning outside the self.

For example, as much as I find ideas like hope to be outrageous, and accept the horror of the species, I have dedicated my life's work to helping disadvantaged communities, participate in volunteer Fire Department and Police Department, help blind people cross the street, and a variety of other behaviors many might find to be socially valuable.

I do not do these things for praise, I am uninterested and often uncomfortable with recognition for them, I do them because I believe it is the right way to behave, I have a moral standard for myself, and I am strict with it.

I however do not think this behavior makes me better than anyone else, nor am I frustrated that most others do not share my interest or commitment to these behaviors. I do these things because I must, because it is my choice. The opinion of society at large is irrelevant to it.

A Nihilist is unable to keep such conviction and a commitment to honor is antithetical to their philosophy.

This sounds like a garden that weeds itself.

Not everyone can be Enya. Apparently only Enya can be Enya.

HAHAHAHA!

I suspect that people think of at least a couple meanings behind "white". Obviously it's okay to be white, as in, your skin color. However, a white guy saying that he identifies as black in order to help them and be on the winning team.....is super effing white. That's the kind of white that sucks.

Dolezalling, dahhhling!

I'm just praying Bill Watterson stays a recluse at this point.

I'm worried Cleo from Heathcliff is already on Only Fans :(

If the canoe is going to move upstream, then everyone has to paddle. Everyone!

The xenophobes need to drop the drama or get left behind.

Nihilists! Fuck me. I mean, say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos.

Picture of a retirement gift, I was an HR Manager. Scott Adams should have taken his own advice.

Dilbert never appealed to me, there were some others that I found to be funny, like The Far Side.

How this managed to stay here, I have no idea.

Anyway, sort of related. Apparently it was only last year that he put a black character into Dilbert. The first appearance was bad in a lot of ways. Apparently he didn't realize that usually, except for Sundays, comics are still printed in black and white. So the comic ended up looking like this.

FRxJZ24XwAExiFW

Which, honestly is unintentionally the funniest Dilbert he has ever written.

I never paid attention to him, but apparently he's been this way for awhile.
He's attracted attention for comments he's made in the past, including saying in 2011 that women are treated differently by society for the same reason as children and the mentally disabled — “it's just easier this way for everyone.” He said 2016 GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina had an “angry wife face.”

:(

Please don't think that... they were given to you with the best of intentions.

Oh absolutely...and thank you for the sentiment, I just find I don’t feel the urge to take them out even if I can almost separate the art from the artist.

Now...if Bill Watterson turns out to be a asshole too I’m done. :x

I'm just praying Bill Watterson stays a recluse at this point.

His body of work seems to suggest that he's got some pretty wholesome ideals. I read recently he's got something new in the works. A book called "The Mysteries" and the illustrations look heavily inspired by German Expressionism.

Though that begs an interesting question: if an artist creates a well-loved body of work, but they themselves has some awful beliefs that many of their fans would disagree with - but they keep completely silent on those matters, is that a net good, or net bad?

I have a Dilbert cube-hanger that I've had for 30 years; my father gave it to me when I got my first job at an ISP. I still have it, but it's put away now, no longer hanging over my desk.

Agreed on BillW.
