Yes ..Yes they do and you should too. Check around Top of the line product will cost $$

It sounds like your question is if Dainese gear is worth it the extra $$$ over Alpinestars and other cheaper gear.

Not if you need leathers on the street vs the highway or the track. You need gear everywhere.

My 2 cents - better to have decent cheaper gear than wait to buy the good stuff and in the meanwhile ride with nothing.

i mean i haev the rs-taichi leather and the knox android glove. but then is dainese really that much better ?

Probably not. Depends on the suit too. A Dainese Laguna Seca suit feels chintzy and pathetic next to an Alpinestars MX-1.

if you're comparing something like a Dainese D-system jackets to FrankThomas XTI aqua jackets (550 dollars vs 150 dollars), then yes... dainese is 10x better.

I have both jackets. In teh aqua, wind leaks in everywhere even tho its supposed to be weather proof. Because of its weatherproofiness, i end up sweating in it in COLD temperatures... making it freezing for me even more. The material sucks and is uncomfortable. the rubbery armor in it blows.

Dainese on the other hand is much more comfortable. I drop money down on that jacket anyday vs cheaper uncomfy brands... i'll only wear the XTI stuff if i have to ... ie: i have no other gear.

that said - there's some stuff out there that will fit better than others. A cheaper set of gloves may be more comfortable than an expensive pair. Just gotta try em on.

with your taichi jacket, ur fine. find some taichi pants to zip into.

also, dainese is brand name - so it will be more expensive... even tho some of their jackets and suits will be marked "Made in china" :(

I usually use all 5 of my gears every time I ride.

I would never skimp on gloves.. Alpinestar's SP2 line and lower are so cheap, they look like they'll fall apart if you look at them wrong.

Pickup a pair of GP Plus and up, and you'll see the difference right away..

<3 Racer High Ends, too.

You might think $200 is a lot to spend on gloves, but when they last 4 years and counting through multiple crashes, including an 80 mph slide, it beats replacing crappy gloves semiannually.

I really like Dainese products but they are just so damn expensive. $900 for a perforated street jacket...dayum!

When I put my A* Stage jacket up next to the $400 Dainese jacket at Cyclegear I didn't notice any major difference as far as protection goes. The one difference that I did notice right away was the quality and feel of the leather on the D jacket. The leather was much softer and I really like the cut and fit of the jacket. Plus their mouse or whatever logo looks cool :)

I wouldn't skimp on gloves either. I paid $180 for my Racer High End gloves with the kangaroo skin. I have crash tested my first pair (3x) when I was first learning to ride and they really held up good. I got a new pair since, and gave my old pair to my friend. My friend even crashed them once in the rain. So that makes 4 crashes on that one pair of gloves and they still held up...thats quality and protection there. I highly recommend these gloves.

+1....only problem not every store carries them. The only place that I know of is the Yami/Honda dealership on Gilman in Berkeley.

I would check with Milleracer before making any gear changes/mods. :nerd

Couldn't agree more

+3 for Racer gloves

Scuderia in SF also carries them...good selection too !

I find quality of my Dainese gloves and jacket to be very high. I was upgrading from a Frank Thomas textile jacket so the difference was obvious.

When I went down on my bike my Dainese $200 gloves took the brunt of the damage and saved me from hurting my fingers.

I say buy the best gear you can afford that is reasonable.

OP- get the best gear that you can afford to buy. Gloves are important, because hands that work are important. If you can afford it, gloves with kangaroo skin on the palms is the best. The leather is very thin and supple, yet has a much higher abrasion resistance than cowhide.
Yes, gear is expensive.
Yes, it's a big cash outlay all at once.
Shop e-bay, shop places like RevZilla, check out what BARFers are selling.
But spend the money.
In the event that you crash, it can mean the difference between getting up, dusting yourself off, and riding home... or getting skin grafts.

I think it rly comes down to comfort or just bragging rights. If i had the money to buy the expensive stuff i would, because alpinestars and dianeese fit and feel better than frank thomas or joe rocket. Look at helmets, are you gonna argue that Arai's or shoes do not feel 100 times better than Icons, or scorpions?
