I posted on Facebook asking friends what 2022 albums they'd been listening to, and the response was mostly "who listens to albums anymore?"

Do you search for albums you can enjoy without skipping songs?

Do you appreciate artists who can make good album with a flow or theme or some connection between songs?

Or is it only me?

I listen to albums from most of my favorite artists when they are released.

I mostly listen to albums. I don't when listening to XM in the car, naturally, and I have some "best ofs", etc.

But mostly I listen to albums straight through.

I don't buy many though, and when I do, I listen to them fairly exclusively for sometime.

Vinyl counts for those who roll that way (and is available again), but I buy albums digitally.

I don't miss the vinyl era, and I suspect most who buy it now weren't stuck with it back then. I discarded my vinyl long ago.

How old? Not old enough for a lifetime national park pass. You?

They offer lifetime passes when it's too late !

I have a really hard time getting into a band if they can't put together a solid album. Most of my favorite bands haven't put out a bad album neither, so that's nice.

Not really because a lot of times, even my favorite bands, I only like at most 75% of the songs on an album. So it's easier to make a playlist with the favorites instead.

Sirius Alt Nation and YouTube. Who buys albums anymore, and what do you play them on.

I buy them all the time. Usually buy digital files directly from the artists I want to support. The files get uploaded into my YouTube music account and my Plex server. I can listen to them on any device that has an internet connection.

Still love a good concept album. There is a ton of live music in my area so usually I purchase CD’s directly from the artists’ merch space and upload them. Fewer middlemen and the often struggling artists happily get cash in their pockets immediately. Sometimes they seem like home burner products, still sound good tho. I attempt to defy the corporate streaming overlords that offer so little to music creators. They win of course.

Seeing bands in concert and buying their merch at the show is pretty much the best way to financially support the artists you care about. If they're not coming to your town, go to the band website and buy stuff there.

great points. when we travel, we like to like to take the opportunity to see local bands / musicians. usually pick up a CD from them. listening to them later is a great way to remember the trip (fun souvenir).

Albums that are not greatest hits that I like to listen to:
  • Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Deja Vu
  • Janis Joplin - Cheap Thrills
  • Jefferson Airplane - After Bathing at Baxter's
  • Jethro Tull - Aqualung
  • Jimi Hendrix - Are you Experienced
  • The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
  • Simon & Garfunkel - All four of their bigger selling albums
Does that give you a hint of the time period I come from?
:afm199

When traveling I put together my own big playlists of stuff that is likely to fit my mood.
