None. Broken Collarbone though
New thread starting because the rain has come and made it muddy. I am happy to lead some road rides in the East Bay if anyone is interested in switching to skinny tires. I can also offer help in shopping for a road bike if anyone needs. And as always, free bike repair for everyone.

Last shop

Last shop was manager of California Pedaler in Danville. I miss being a wrench, and still have a decent set of tools, so I wrench for free. I worked in the bike industry for almost 20 years.

Road Ride. SAT. 12/3 Old Tunnel Rd. 9am

Start at Old Tunnel Rd in Oakland. Old Tunnel up the hill to Skyline, Left at the end of skyline down the hill to Redwood Rd. Redwood to Pinehurst. Up Pinehurst to Skyline and back to our starting spot.
Can someone post a map of this.

I'm trying not to take this winter off from road riding, so if anyone wants to ride in the Palo Alto area let me know. I usually do the Portola Valley/Woodside area. I finally had to bust out my cold weather riding gear last weekend. :(

Please explain in detail where the starting point is and I will be there. Thanx! Joe
Or check your pms for my phone # and give me a call.

I was just wondering that myself. I just tried calling Greg and left a message.

Directions to Old Tunnel

Heading west thru the tunnel, take the first exit once you are out of the tunnel. Look for the right hand turn about 1/4 mi. down the road. Heading east thru the tunnel, take the last exit before the tunnel and I think you backtrack a block or so to the overpass. Turn left, once across the overpass, and look for the same right hand turn. Coming from Ashby. Go up the hill and turn left at the top stoplight before you get on 13 South. Go up the small rise and turn left on Old Tunnel
We're rollin' at 9

Here's a map. This sounds like it, I drew different colored lines coming from each of the directions Gregory specified.

I'm thinking this is the route itself:

What is a 'brisk' pace? Never been a road rider. Well, never been much of a serious rider at all (though I have always enjoyed it).

I think I should try it out, but I only have my mountain bike (no suspension) to ride. Unless I try to fix the ancient road bike that is half my size that sits in the garage :laughing

Clues on pace.

"Brisk" is a subjective measure. If you show up and everyone is skinny, with big calves and shaved legs, brisk means painful. If your the thinnist guy in the pack, brisk might not be so bad. Brisk usually means not a whole lot of "stop and jabber" sessions. If you are off the pace, someone will usually hang back and make sure you catch all the important turns. And most rides have a cut out early option that you should politely take. Most cyclists(except for the rare euro poseur cycling snob) are very cool with new riders joining the pack. Please be prepared with a pump and flat kit. Air in your tires and water and a powerbar. Your mtn bike with some smooth road oriented tires should work great. Especially considering most rides around here eventually run in to a good size hill. The mtn gears will come in handy.
