Doc Wong's Dual Sport Clinic - what an Adventure!

Sounds like another great adventure! Sorry I missed this one. :thumbup:thumbup

I'll just say one thing for those reading this thread and thinking of attending one -- get a proper skid plate. Your plastic skid plate will not protect you. This is the second person I've heard who's punched a hole in their engine case at one of these clinics, and another person whacked their engine hard enough to create a slow leak. Get a skid plate!

Second -- that road with the downed log is not a legally open road. Just sayin'.

Ill second that, this ride was no joke.. Dual Sport or Dirt Bike with large fuel capacity. enduro or knobbie tires...Skid plates...Handle Bar crash guards....boots, motocross preferred and good clothing

That's a minimum

150 miles from fill up to fill up.. 8hrs on the trail after the clinic..18hours door to door..

Not trying to scare anybody off but there were some people who should have been warned and shouldn't have been there as it was more than they could chew on.....

I was wondering about all the "No Trespassing" signs and empty shot gun shells.

But it is an Adventure, just so ya know!
 
At one point I asked for a show of hands of who had not dropped their bikes. Four hands went up. Three KLR's and one big ass BMW who had never been on dirt before. He kicked ass and even shared his gass with others.

Tim, glad you and the bike made it home ok. First time 2-up on the KTM and it was uneventful I'm glad to say.

A special thanks to the KLR guys who were the sweepers - you guys went above and beyond all day!

Haha,, You were in a class all your own. I kind of felt like you were more of a guardian angle just hovering over the group..

I was thinking that it looked less like a clinic and more like a thurough skool.:ride
 
Yea, it was quite a day of riding and about 5 times harder than I had anticipated, having done this route at least six times before.

There was a rider, new to dirt, that had a Ducati Multistrata who did the whole ride without a problem. All that nice shiny plastic and nothing even scratched!

It was a breeze, right? :rofl

If Ducati survive, any kind of motorcycle is fine!

This week, I ordered Off-road pant, Off-road boot, etc.
This is true we should be well dressed!

Next time, you will see fully protected Ducati! (very unusual...)

If a 600 pound multi could make it though, a 300 pound 690SMC shouldn't have too many problems...I'll have to see if I can make it back to the bay for one of these :)

Can't wait to see that! There's some guys from S.F. I've seen on rides that have been pretty gnarly on their Multis. Impressive. Despite its badge and looks, probably shouldn't be underestimated.
Taka-don't forsake the slab tho' hope to see you on that Duc on other rides. Especially after the mods.

Yea, I wanted to see how everything survived! The Multistrada doesn't look very dirt worthy, but I was deceived! You and your bike definitely impressed me! :thumbup
 
I know a guy that did Clear Creek Road (not the entire route Doc Wong does, though) on a Harley Street Glide.

Sure, a more appropriate bike and tires will make it easier. How much easier you need/want it to be is up to you. Your average novice rider on a dual sport bike shouldn't have TOO much problem. The mud pit is the worst part, really. There are some ruts, but they're wimpy rut, not bike swallowing trenches.

Try telling that to some of the big dual sports that got swallowed by some of those ruts..

I spent some time helping a few guys pick up their big bikes and hauling one or two out of some of those ruts...


Here I am helping a guy pickup his Big Vstrom. I'ts not a rut but anther fun section that seemed to get the best of a few bikes. Poor guy fell backwards into the brambles. I'm not sure how he survived. :wtf
