Does anyone think Santa Clara Cycles is overpriced?

Bought some gear from them and the salesman was a nice guy, but I feel like the listed bikes are way above KBB or NADA valuations. Do they usually list high and are open to haggle? And do they charge dealer fees on top of that?

The bikes are on consignment.
You can make an offer on a bike. They will call the owner and discuss.

I their prices are reasonable, and as noted they are on consignment so the market will work that out. The benefit is you're getting a vetted bike versus dealing with "I know what I got" folks on Facebook marketplace etcetera

Echoing the idea that SCC is mostly fair in the pricing of bikes. First and foremost, sheesh, let a business make a little money. Second, on the consignment bikes, have seen some craigslist motorcycles end up at SCC after failing to sell and be better priced. Reality check I imagine, considering the dealer cut.

What are you getting for a few dollars more? If you are looking at differing models, a one-stop shopping experience is possible. As mentioned, they've done at least a cursory check of the bike's condition. How comfortable are you, as a buyer, standing in some random parking lot with $10k in your pocket and the owner of the bike says hand it over if you want to test ride?

As others have said above the bikes are on Consignment from the owners. They do an inspection on the bike to make sure it safe and sound. You are always welcome to make an offer it will go to the owner and they decide how to proceed.

I don’t know how many bikes they have sold over the years but my bet is the number would be impressive.

As a potential buyer it’s nice to know their mechanics had a look over [or even serviced] the bike and you can go rail HWY right off the lot.

Seller sets the price. SCC keeps 12% consignment fee, remits 88% to the seller upon sale.

I bought my 2019 Zed400 through SCC and the price was a little high for the year and milage but it came with an Ohlins shock, Akrapovic slip on, larger fly screen, Corbin seat and racetech emulators and stiffer springs up front. I made a counter offer to the price and the owner met me half way, plus I got the stock bits to boot. So I feel I got a good deal.

I dunno. Some people are careful about their money and gather information before a purchase. The OP may not be savy to the used motorcycle market.

If they sell bicycles for adults that cost more than $300-400, they are clearly overpriced.

Doug and Greg are good people, and have done a lot for the moto community. I've personally sold a lot of bikes myself in the past, but have also used their consignment services to sell a bike a few years ago. Transaction was smooth and they handled everything.

Doug also helped out my kid with some moto gear when she did BMX. I can't speak highly enough of them and we are fortunate to have them around.

Another +1 for Doug at SCC: I've bought a few bikes from him over the years and found him to be nothing other than kind, respectful, reasonable, and willing to work with me on what I wanted. Good guy, good place -- worth it in an area where that isn't always the case.

As others have noted, no business can remain in operation if they are priced above their competitors or unless they are offering something unique.

The fact that they have existed as long as they have is proof they are doing it right.
