Does commuting take the fun out of riding?

i only find commuting fun cause i commute during rush hour traffic on 101.. instead of the 40mins in my cage, i get home in 15 mins.. what a difference.. but in your situation, it is not commuting, you are practically working out of your bike which is really difficult to do..

Commuting can get to be a bit of a grind, but then I look at everybody stuck in traffic and realize I'd be losing my shit in my truck right about now...

Just gotta make up for it on weekends or it really will start to sink in.

No. Why do I say that?

if you have the flexibility, then variety is the way to.
And if you can rotate a 3rd bike in to the mix, like a nice classic, then you're triangulating!

I commute on my bike as often as I can, typically it is the only time I have to ride. I enjoy it every day! I commute from HMB to SSF via Highway 1 through Devil's Slide, and Sharp Park up to Skyline and down San Bruno to SSF. Love it, every day of it!

NO.
it puts the fun into commuting.
commuting happens ot be the ebst part of myweekday.

my commute is the dregs. seriously - i have about 30 seconds of fun (chicanes) during a 25 mile commute. but i figure that making the best of a bad situation - which usually means 2 wheels are better than 4 - is the most i can hope for. does it take the fun out of it? no. like i said, i get 30 seconds. which ain't much, but it's better than nothing.

commuting is fun unless you ride a drz400... I miss my 37/15 gearing... matter fact i miss my f4... coming back to san jose from palo alto the long way after work is the shit though...page mill-skyline-9 to saratoga.

I'm sure the OP just put some words in the wrong place by accident.

though i have pretty much stopped commuting via 2 wheels, since i moved down here and (for now) only live 4 miles from work. but when i used to do my daily trans-bay commute, i loved it. it was fun. as crazy as it sounds, i find it more fun than going out on weekends "conquering" the twisties. i love splitting lanes, i love feeling of moving when others are stuck sitting. i love how it keeps my alert level up. i love cager watching, seeing all the crazy things they do and predicting/anticipating what stupid move they will make. i love how im getting fresh morning air and be all pumped up by the time i get to work/school.

my point is, u got to find things that keep the commute fun. if at any time u find urself feeling like ur commute is becoming a duty, or some type of obligation, then it might be time for u to either take a break from it, or stop completely.

:thumbup +eleventy billion....u said exactly what i wanted to say except in tons less words.

If all you do is commuting, it can be a drag. I have to get out and go "exorcise" the evil commute demons by finding some roads that are either twisty or go off to a distant destination. That keeps the evil ones at bay for a couple-three weeks. :ride

Yours might be an extreme case of too much stopping and going.
I'll be commuting when I get my bike too... hope it's makes things more fun!

I just think of how much worse it would be, to be in a car
So true. I'm always stuck in traffic wishing I was on a bike...
nope.my solution is own 2 bikes, one for commuting, one for getttin' the F outta town....
Haha... great goal.

I hope so!

I try to separate things I like doing from things I have to do. For this reason, I wouldn't want to ride my bike for work like you described..or for example being a moto traffic cop

My commute is my fun, ~45 miles, five days a week. I look forward to do it every times (like having sex)...been looking to buy a second bike for commute, so I wouldn't wear-out my Duc too much; but then I started to realize...why?? you only live once...

I commute on 101S from Novato to Tiburon and I don't enjoy the traffic and having to split lanes.
