Does Wearing a One-Piece on the Road Make You Look Like a Goober?

I had kind of the same problem with wearing knee pucks.I will probably never drag my knee unless I crash, but I wear them.I am that guy with the shiny never touched pucks but I figured its worth the safety even if somebody wants to make fun of my shiny pucks.

Oh, and dude, stop calling them "onesies". :laughing

Ready to rock and roll.

So I'm shopping around for some new gear that offers more protection and is more functional than the Bilt crap I have now. I've narrowed it down to two options:

1. Buy separately pants and a jacket, or
2. Buy a one-piece suit

I believe the onesie will offer better protection and comfort than a jacket/pants combo, and I basically already have a jacket and pants, so they would be replacing things I could still use. Buying a onesie might be a better deal as well. So really it boils down to the titular question. Is there potential for looking like a dork? :|

Depends...someone else wearing Race style one piece on the street won't see Goober.

Aerostitch is one piece, and another Aerostitch wearer won't see Goober.

Everyone picks what they like. And the reasons for their liking.

I like Race weight leather and T-Pro (now called Force field) Armor and plain black coming from custom leathers makers. Johnson Leathers in the city has the goods, but your not sounding like you would pay for what they sell.

And...before anyone goes off on plain black...My bike is lime Green, dayglo-ish.

When I commute, I wear a yellow Aerostich with an even brighter yellow SaferMoto high vis vest. I'm sure I look like a complete 'tard but fuckit, you saw me, didn't you. :laughing

So I'd recommend a good two piece set of leathers, or a 'stich.

:thumbup

Who give a flyin' fuck what others think? I wear a two piece Darien with the jacket being that gaudy, bright Hi-Viz color. It get's noticed. And frankly, unless you want to use it for track days, a quality textile suit is better for commuting. And don't balk at the prices. Yes, the entry fee is high, but how much is your skin worth? And how much would you pay not to be hurting big time for weeks from road rash and the like.

That said, get an Aerostich Roadcrafter. Or Aerostich makes a leather suit now as well.

I'm ignorant and apathetic to the answer. I do wear a 1 piece on the street from time to time.

You should really give Teiz suits a look as well, about the same price as a 'Stitch, but more features for the $ - armor, superfabric joint pads. I don't work for them, I'm just an entirely satisfied customer ;)

Can anyone recommend a good 2-piece for about $500? I can got a bit over but that's more or less my budget for this, should be more than enough to get something that fits well and offers good protection.

Just bought a Joe Rocket two piece for under 500$.

That AGV Palomar suit looks awesome. Is that armor thin by comparison? Just because it's CE doesn't necessarily mean it's the bees knees.

I have no idea. If it's replaceable, you can always get some T-Pro from Johnson Leathers in SF and swap it out.

I just broke down and purchased a suit that will basically do it all. I commute as well as tour so I wanted Leather but 2 piece and something that was waterproof as well as something that didn't make me walk like a retard or look like one (more than I already do that is). This is what I settled on. Pricy sure, but for a suit that can pretty much do everything it's worth the price if you ask me.

It's the AeroStich Transit Suit.

Yes. But if you grind your pucks with a sander it makes up for it.

Jeez-o-man, that's expensive. I'm a poor college student, I can't afford $1500 suits. If I could I wouldn't even have this thread, I'd just go to We All Ride and be like, "Give me your finest suit my good man," while adjusting my monocle :rolleyes

Also lacks critical component: knee sliders.

That it is. If it sucks I can get some better pads later.

Yes. But if you grind your pucks with a sander it makes up for it.

I've got enough balls to let the asphalt do the sanding :)

I go ATGATT, always, and I don't care what people think about how it looks. It's my skin/bones/blood that would be at risk, not theirs.

First Gear TPG 3/4 length coat, with armored elbows & shoulders, and First Gear TPG pants, armored knees & hips.

SaferMoto Hi-Viz full vest.

Joe Rocket gauntlet gloves.

CTX boots. And if I'm going to work, I strap my Army boots onto the luggage rack, as those don't have ankle protection like the CTXs do.

HGC IS-16 Scratch helmet, with SunShield & the MSF reflective triangle at the back.

Yeah, I'm visible.

And again, I don't care what people think. If they think I look like a goof, then that's their problem for not understanding why I'm wearing this life-saving equipment.

The ones that like the gear accept me as I am and that's enough for me. :thumbup

Precisely. To be a bit honest I thought the title would grab more attention, the most important thing is getting a suit that works the best. :)

Ah I didn't see where you said this suit was for the track.

Track, right... :twofinger
