Dunlop guy eats crow ..... Pirelli SuperbikePro slick!!

my momma taught me never to add throttle at full lean angle unless you're taking away lean... :teeth

i know you're faster than me (by a lot) at t'hill, so i dunno..

regardless, the pro slick was good for a 2:40 pace at rfr with 4 days on it with no issues. that's equal to about a 1:55 at thill, i guess.

Your momma is right about every tire i have ever used.. except the big dunlop :)

Just curious in reading this.

Who was running those (1:55 @ T-Hill equivalent) lap times on the SuperbikePro slicks Joe? You, or someone else?

Yeah, that's much too high for 211s, which is why you're tearing them. Also, running around 2:10s *may* not be quick enough, depending on ambient temps, to really get them hot enough to where they need to be, but I'm not sure about that. But definitely 27psi hot is way too high, should be more like 21 or 22 hot off the track.

Like I said, I ran them over a range of hot pressures from 23 up to 27. I tried the higher pressures to cool off the tire, thinking that maybe the wear problem was because the tires were getting too hot (more pressure, less carcass flex, less heating). Dunlop recommends 21 cold/23 hot. At 21 cold, the tires would be at least 26 hot after a typical first session at THill. 23 hot corresponded to something more like 17 cold or 18 cold in real life, and not to 21.

... and my tire gauge is good to within 1/2 psi.

i mentally did math and averages and stock quotes and the likes, and based on my formula, i decided that a 2:40 at reno fernley raceway would be the equivelent to about a 1:55 at thunderhill, relative to fastest laptimes ever set.

thus, i can comfortably ride a 2:40 pace at RFR on the pro slick. i am incapable of a 1:55 at t'hill, however, on any tire.

Yeah, you have to set them around 16 or 17 cold. I have no idea why Dunlop gives erroneous official numbers.

I ran the PRO rear last year and was able to lap Thill at comfortable 1:53s at trackdays. I used it for trackdays, schools, and even some setup during AFM weekend. I ran it for at least 6 days on my gsxr 1000. The performance drops off after the first couple of days, but then levels out and it slides very predictably. I was able to wear the rubber down to the bottom of the dots and if I was riding trackdays only and not racing...that would be the only tire I'd spend my money on for the best "bang for your buck".

Ah so the "1:55 @ T-Hill equivalent" lap times you quoted were in reference to your own riding on the SBPro tires huh Joe?

Gotta love that fantasy math at work! :rofl

The day you run 1:55's at T-Hill, I want to be there to witness it for posterity, and to shake your hand. :)

oh gary, how you annoy me so sometimes. it's a good thing you're a good guy in meatspace, otherwise i just might not like you at all.

Martin has gone way faster than me on the rear Pro, but I have gone 55-56s on it and it worked great.

I was doing consistent 1:48's at Laguna with the Pro slicks on my 2001 CBR 600f4i. That may not sound like much until you stop to think about the fact that it was my first time at that track, first time really on that bike, and second time on any big track, ever. Also, I was about 212 pounds, and my bike was set up for a 160-180 pound rider.

The point is that I wasn't exactly gentle on those tires, and they performed admirably the whole time. Also, they slide incredibly predictably. Good stuff. Glad I bought them.

Dude from HWY 9 & 35 to Alices I did it in 6.34.808 on a really worn Q2. With my math that puts me at a 1:48.3 @ T-Hill, ButtonWillow a 1:45, and Infineon a 1:36. Yea baby I am rockin :twofinger

I'm going to use the PROs this weekend at thill, anyone got advice on pressures, I got the #'s from the Pirelli guy

28-cold front
31-hot off track front

23-cold rear
26-27-hot off track

Trackmonkey IS the pirelli guy ;) I'd go with those numbers

Geez Martin...I know you run faster laps in AFM, but those are some crazy track day lap times!!! Take me for a pull for a couple of laps!!! I'd love to see what you're doing right and what I'm doing wrong!!! We'll Pirelli ProSlick it up the next day we're both out and have some time!!!

Those are the numbers.:)

Also please be sure to check your psi a least a few time during the day. I check my psi just before I go out on every session.

Since your tires aren't really "hot" or "cold" at that point, what's your target psi?
