Easy ways to recycle tires, oil, batteries

Good to know, I have a couple to drop off. ^

Also found this online "where to recycle what" tool...plug in your location, residence type and the crap you want to recycle, and it gives you local options. Here's a search for tires in a 10-mile radius of Pleasanton...

Looks like Rock & Roll Auto Recycling ((925) 224-9944) 3908 Old Santa Rita Rd., Pleasanton, only has a $1/tire fee.

What about coolant? I haven't found anyone convenient to take coolant.

I did find a county hazardous waste dropoff site, but it's only open on the fifth Saturday of the month, from 4-4:30, when the moon is full, on sunny days. So, looking for something more convenient.

Burn the tires in the fireplace, good heat. The antifreeze makes great kool aid.

I've never found anywhere decent aside from the open-when-they-feel-like-it county hazardous waste site for both brake fluid and coolant, so I save it up for every couple years and/or combine a run with friends and neighbors.

I combine brake fluid with oil and the county garbage recycling takes it. I thought it was close enough to oil.

Just pour it on your neighbor's car... does wonders for the paint. If more people knew, detailers would be out of business.

Cave men poured their shit down the drain...
Those of us who Like Nice Things take it to the damn waste disposal place. :laughing

Does anyone know of a place (between benicia-napa-vacaville) that will take used tires for cheap. The landfill wants $6 per tire.

throw it in the canal. i keed.

Lookup your county and city Hazardous waste management's website or call them and ask if there are any tire recycling programs going on now.

I was able to get coupons from the city to get rid of 9 tires at a time at garbage company. They have it a couple times per year here.

I take my tires to the local shop I don't like and put them in their pile- after hours of course.

My friend in San Diego used to do that. :p

When I'm paying to get car tires mounted, I just say at the end something like "Sounds good, and you'll include me throwing some old tires onto the pile?" and they have never said no.

I just pour the brake fluid into the oil container. It's usually only like 8 ounces at the most among the 5 gallons of oil.

You can contaminate a whole batch of oil really easily. Why not just properly recycle the brake fluid?

I guess because I'm a bad person.

Also, I didn't realize I was contaminating their entire tank of used motor oil.
