End of season race bikes being sold?

:confused

What happened there?

Signed,

Interested in 250 race bike...

The rule book has been "updated" and the old rules that allowed modified 250 twins to race in "production" have changed so many (most?) of the ninja 250s on the grid in past years will not be legal for the class.

Still great track bikes and I think they are OK for other classes, but not 250 prod.

This needs some clarification.

In the past the rules for Prod in AFM were very different from almost any other org, allowing for a lot of modifications that many felt added too much cost and were not in the spirit of a Production class. This was the case for all Prod classes, not just 250's.

So a few years back (2005 IIRC) we developed a second set of Prod rules that were designed to mirror AMA Supersport/Superstock rules. Knowing that there was large installed base of racers who had built thier bikes to the old rules, there was a bifurcation of the Prod rules, one set of rules for bikes 2005 and older (the old rules) and another set for bikes 2006 and later (the new rules). This was to stay in place until 2009, so as to let the "old rule" folks get some more life out of their bikes and make preparations for the new set of rules.

So now, as of next season, there will be only one set of Prod rules and some bikes that were Prod legal under the old rules will no longer be Prod legal. This affects all classes, 1000's to 250's.

That is most definitely going to shrink the 250p grid. Sucks because who's gonna want to race a modified EX250 along side an Aprilia RS250 Cup bike in 250SB?

On the plus side it opens the door for a *cough*"spec-class" for the 2008 ninja 250................

Thank you for the information on the prod rules. And thanks to lokisdog for using 'bifurcate.' :) I was considering picking up a 250 to run in Prod and get some more time under my n00b belt - but I think I'll just stick with the GS500 I already have.

Sorry, you can't run a GS500 in 250 Prod. :teeth

Dude. There were three bikes in the last 250P race. :laughing

But one of them looked to be on the new Ninja 250, getting seat time for the '09 season. Probably a few more of the new revamped Ninja 250's being built for '09. The WSMC Ninja 250 class has made some noise and turned some heads. :thumbup

I thought there were two new ones (Bartlow and Mazurkiewicz-Kinberger) and one old one (Winklebauer).

Word is that the rental service that was at WSMC events will be available at AFM races - if Kawasaki is paying next year, the grids probably won't be that small for long!

Oh yeah I think Kelly had a DNF for some reason. I didn't see Lisa's bike but I did see Bartlow on a new one.

Last time I saw him he was getting a little more air...ouch on the landing!

Aw what the hell do I know anyway. Last time I raced a full season was in 03'. 250P was pretty crowded back then. :teeth

So I guess the hot setup is to buy an 08' and you'll be runnig up front ;)

I'll probably be selling my SV650 race bike. Penske, GSXR front, fresh motor, flatslides, well set up. New bodywork. somewhere around $4300
