Engine Stalling at High RPM Downshift

Yes, 600 mi service done at Tokyo Moto. Valves were within specs.

...see, thats the problem...Shawn probably f-ed it up....:teeth

J/K.

I do recommend you take it to a dealer though....just for the warranty stuff. If there is a problem, Honda will take care of it.

Happened again, but this time at a really slow speed / stop and go, < 10 mph. Definitely has something to do with fuel and clutch disengagement. Will report the details back from Mission Motorcycles when I take it in on Wednesday!

i had this issue too. It was kind of annoying, but it was was mostly happening only before 600 mile service. After that even if it was happening i do not remember that was extremely rare.
I do not think that 600 mile service stopped it, more likely it gradually decreased and disappeared by itself by the time i brought it to service.

The scenario was always the same. Cold engine in the morning, i rolling to the very first stop light, clutch in, downshift to 1. Engine silently dies and often I discover that only when I try too start from the light. And it might happen on a second and third light too. And even without it, when I downshift from 2 to 1.

I pointed this behavior at 600 mile service, but they (Motor Cafe in Sunnyvale) where no able to reproduce. Also they reported this to Honda. Since later it stopped happening completely i did not care much.

Never had a problem with mine, the first year model. I heard about this more with the 2011 models. Some say tell the dealer increase the idle RPM a little, maybe up 200

Had the same thing happen to my bike. Turned out alternator was faulty. Go figure.

I very occasionally have this same thing happen with my K1300S, right down to the "hard to start for a few moments afterward" part (the starter lugs slowly). No idea why. Engine is hot, happens when downshifting to a stop, but not sure exactly what I'm doing. So rare that it doesn't bother me.

Mission Motorcycles (where I purchased the bike) said they could not reproduce the issue, so nothing they can do (no charge). This issue with the Ninja 300 sounds like the exact same problem:

Anyways, not much more to say to this post other than I'll have to file a complaint to the NHTSA. Thanks for all the help, guys.
Kawai is aware of this and has just started installing new ecu's under warranty.
Go straight to your rep.,call him on the phone and write letters and e-mails.you will get it replaced.
They key is getting the rep to give the dealer the green light.

Update - Just received a surprise call from Honda Corporate today. They wanted to further investigate the issue so they spoke with Mission Motorcycles and will have them run a few other tests. I'm pleasantly surprised that Honda reached out when they could have just said "meh".

That's awesome :thumbup I love it when companies reach out with good customer service.

Valves too tight

@ Teddy. Thanks but I wasn't the one who did the first service & didn't f it up!

I was at Mission the other day & was informed that the bike was still stalling after the shims were changed, and that the shims weren't too tight when the bike came in, but where closer to the tighter end of the spec. The Tech. doing the work was sure that was the problem, but wrong.

After I took my 250 to the dealer for carb synching, the idle was set fuck-all low and if I downshift a few gears it dies now.
Speaking of...I should fix that...

had a 600rr that did this consistently-the throttle position sensor was bad.

Did they check alternator? I had similar issue on my bike. Randomly on downshifts it would die on me. Turned out alternator was faulty.
