EVs seem to be facing some headwinds

Not the only headwind. They’re also being banned from some parking garages because of the fire hazard and how difficult they are to extinguish.
If a reliable solution isn’t found soon I suspect the end of ICE mandates will start being relaxed with deadlines getting extended

That is surprising. First I have heard of this.

The whole EV mandate by X-Date is pretty stupid given who owns the raw materials for battery manufacturing makes a full transition smart anyway. At least not yet.

Wow, first I've heard of that.

The article goes on to say plug in hybrids not much better than EVs but non plug in hybrids are well sorted and reliable.

We'll soldier on with our two Hiroshima built Mazdas I suspect, a 1994 with almost 200k miles and a 2019 with under 10k.

Both get in the mid 20s from their ICE engines but as we now drive so little doesn't make much of a financial drain no matter the gas costs.

I was told this last week by a "High Ranking" person at PG&E; "If everyone got an Electric Vehicle, our grid would shut down". Some businesses with large vehicle fleets, that want to convert from ICE to EV have been told "No", by PG&E, because the grid cannot support it. These businesses have been told that they cannot convert more than 50% of the vehicles to EV.

I'm not a fan of EV's.

I love the sound that my Mustang 5.0 makes. An EV could never replace that.

PGE is also pretending that getting electricity from solar arrays on homes/apartments is also costing them money despite them not having to make a dime of investment to get said power.

Lying SOBs is what they are.

Most large fleets are putting in solar arrays, no?

Does he realize that all EVs aren't going to be charged at the same time? :laughing

I thought this was the fun part:
https://www.dol.gov/agencies/ilab/r...shows that lithium, cobalt—made by child labor.

For the too long to click on the link crowd: Ore mined by child labor in Congo, then refined in China. Not clear if there is children laboring there, it seems like its mostly textiles, leather and finished electronics….

Of course it applies to the Duracells and just about everything else….

China uses the Uyghurs ( Muslims) for slave labor. Yes, China controls or owns a majority of the cobalt and lithium mines needed for EV batteries . Meanwhile in the US our Interior department has closed or limited mining activities making us more dependent upon China.

Fortunately there are still folks in government who see the environment as being at least as important as the economy especially since economic issues are short term while environmental disasters relatively permanent.

Let China pollute themselves if they choose

Technically, the people that buy from china are polluting china.

Charging EV's can be a nightmare too. EVers chime in.
Your map can direct you to a charging station but sometimes when you get there the screen has been smashed, or it doesn't work or there is someone in front you.
Your options are to wait, or search for another station somewhere else where you might find the same situation.
Assuming you find a working charger you then have to wait quite a bit of time (an hour?) for the car to charge, usually in a parking lot.
Imagine it's 10:00 PM and you're a lone woman in a dark parking lot waiting an hour for your car to charge.

Also, all the charging stations I've seen in parking lots have no roof or protection from the elements unlike a gas station, so if it's raining or snowing you're doing your business out in the open.

China is free to tighten their own environmental laws but seems they don’t care. Folks accept pollution is inevitable somewhere and simply happy for now to not have it in their backyard. Keep kicking the can down the road until extinction.

As an EV owner starting in 2019 (2 Energicas [a 2020 & 2021], a 2020 Chevy Bolt, and a 2020 Tesla) I can honestly say that I’ve only had one issue that required manufacturer assistance to resolve (my Tesla) and that turned out to be a reset with a service rep over the phone. I no longer have the Energicas since I made the move to 3-wheels but my Bolt and Model Y continue to be trouble free.

I tend to use my Bolt for local driving and my Model Y for road trips (Seattle, SoCal, Las Vegas) and with the exception of said road trips, my charging is done at home via a 240v charger (yes, I also have solar).

Compared to my ICE vehicles, my cost to operate has been negligible. Annual service consists of tire rotations (Bolt only, Tesla has a staggered fitment) and cabin filter replacements. I charge up each vehicle once or twice a week at home depending on usage so I almost always have a “full tank”.

If a decent electric 3-wheeler comes out I’ll seriously consider replacing my current 3-wheeler.

The children are doomed.
Also, tell us about your tricycle.

also because of weight. Turns out multi-story parking garages have a max weight limit; all F-150s and Cybertruck and Rivian Truck exceed that limit (or at least the common one I saw, pictured on a warning sign that noone reads)

Manhattan already had a collapsed parking garage struck-ture with the cars inside

Impressive but i’d take the porsche any day over that ugly thing.
unless i actually needed a truck then i simply go buy a real one

as a product, it may have its place, but seriously, what was that moron thinking design-wise... :confused :wow
