So I've got this fancy Euro car that makes a shit-ton of power and sounds pretty badass from the factory but I can't help but think that maybe a Borla cat-back pipe would be rad. Horsepower wise the specs say it will make 6-9 more, more importantly it will save 30 pounds off the ass end of this beast... but will I sound like one of those attention whore Mustang/Charger guys? I mean I would really like a more aggressive exhaust note but am worried about the DB factor... and not "db" as in decibel.

Your opinion or thoughts on the subject?

And yeah, I came here because I value your opinion and not so much those of the fancy-car forum... speaking of db's.

I learned some stuff watching this.

Since you are talking cat back, you can skip most of the stuff in the beginning about header design. There is some good info about muffler design and type. I think it's gonna be hard to guess exhaust tone tho. Best bet would be to scour you tube and see if you can find a vid of someone with the set up you are considering.

If its a bimmer inline 6, then dont ever put an exhaust on it cause it will sound like shit. If its a bent eight or a 10, or it has a snail in he exhaust path, then by all means please, just put a straight pipe in that mofo. At the very least, make it a full exhaust, h pipe or header(s) included. Anything less is just faggotry(aka, cat back exhausts). If its an auto, then please just dont do anything.

I run a straight piped duramax with aftermarket downpipe and i have no regrets. Its not that loud because there is a salad shooter in the exhaust. Its fucking pure glory.

Pretty sure when beau says euro, there is a pony in the emblem

if you're doing it for better sound, do it

For power, will you even feel an extra 10? We couldn't :dunno ynmv

I'm thinking F type Jag. They have a sick note from the factory though.
Go forth and listen to the exact exhaust you want on the car you plan on putting it on if possible as system A can sound great on one car but like ass on another.

And good to hear from you motherfucker.

Equine emblem = flat plane crank = oh hell yes put a noisy exhaust on it. That's music, you're just turning up the volume.

Boxer 6,not so much.

Probably not. Ferraris don't have much of a exhaust to be able to lose 30 lbs on..Unless it's a front engine..and in that case I would never put exhaust on a GT car.

Sports car, yes do exhaust. GT car no way. The hp increase is not worth it..your only doing exhaust for the sound.

Yeah I seriously give zero fucks about hp gains, this thing already makes like 570 plus, I want the exhaust for the sound.

I think it should be loud and proud like its owner.

Yeah man-date night sucks solo. Miss you brah.

My vote is yes. Nothing is going to be that loud with stock cats anyways. Just loud enough to hear and appreciate. Not loud enough to annoy.

In the 600-700 hp range? You wont notice the increase in power. Is the car too quiet now? We need to know the car darn it. If you tell me it's a 170 hp Golf, I'm going to lose it.

He said it was pushing about 570...the would be some Golf.

Porsche 997 ...... ps - ferrari isn't the only brand with a pony in the logo
45# stock exhaust, 11# aftermarket

Not hard to lose 30#s in the exhaust world

Loud cars get old quick if you spend a decent amount of time in them. If it's a weekend only car and that's your thing go for it.

Funny, I don't really hear the exhaust sound on my cars, even in the 914 with the 993 motor, which is pretty loud, 99dB at Laguna, I think. I'm just busy.

I have an Eisenmann exhaust on my V8 m3. The ONLY drawback I experience is sometimes I'm a little self conscious of how loud it is driving down my street (especially late at night) and at some retreats I've been to. But it does sound great otherwise.

Is it any different than with Harleys where loud exhaust sounds great only to the rider.

I hear loud Lambos ripping around every weekend downtown with the noise echoing of the buildings. Fkn loud and sounds like shit IMO.
