I'm repacking my exhaust pipe. I bought the material from Cycle Gear today. But I was wondering what type of tape should I use to secure the material to the perforated metal tube?

I've seen on YouTube to use steel wool as well as the packing material. Opinions?

Does it need to be a specific tape or just paper tape since it will just disintegrate in the pipe. :dunno

Thanks!

I just used packing tape; lasts longer than regular tape...

...but burns up anyway. I was repacking yearly w/CG packing to keep the noise down on various IL4 Kwackers f/decades. I also packed the sh_t out of it. As hard as I could & as much as I could get in. Lasts longer w/effort...:teeth

Got it!

Duct tape it is then. Thanks

if it's to hold the packing on until you slip the cover over, just use masking tape.

I used blue painters tape on my RM. I wrapped it in 3 or 4 locations as loosely as possible, just so it would go back in the pipe.

+1; masking tape is what I found when I pulled it apart the first time, masking tape is what I've been using to put it back together the two times I've done the repack. :shrug

I think I just used masking tape when I did my Jardine RT-4
