For those of you with an aftermarket exhaust, how often do you repack it? The manufacturers I looked up recommend every 6-10k miles...ouch!

It depends on the manufacture. Some (like staintune) never have to be repacked, and are welded shut even.

From what I've read, even Staintune exhausts need repacking. Their big thing is that they don't use rivets, but bolt the innards to he end caps. Sounds like a quality system but I've read about people repacking them.

The packing burns out. OEM exhausts don't have packing they have baffles.

Twins tend to be harder on the packing. The Muzzy on my SV650 is so loud it is embarassing. Packing just arrived, I will repack it next week.

My shop is the importer and distributor for stainitune, trust me, no repacking

That's funny! I was reading a thread on another forum about a guy that was having trouble repacking his staintune. That explains it!

What packing material does staintune use? Does it have stainless innards?

Two Brothers Racing reccommends every 5k, at least on the carbon fiber muffler I used to have...Now I have akrapovic, and havent found any recomendations for repacking those.

Yeah I have Staintunes on the ST2 and it's been past that time . The problem is ... Munroes's is the only one that has the kit , so I gotta go to the city , but every BMW dealer just goes :wtf when I ask them .

From Staintune:

There is never a need to internally service or repack a stainless steel muffler because the packing material is a spun stainless steel wool. It will not disintegrate or blow out, ever. There are no rivets and there is no way to open the muffler up to get to the internals.

Are you sure ??? just a little ????
If I show you , will i get new one to replace them then ?????

Do all aftermarket exhausts have packing? I could have sworn that my micron can used baffles.

I'm going to go with "Burst into flames"

But my packing is so full of soot and burnt oil, I think it's probably quieter than it used to be. :laughing

Even on the track,
You must repack.

Hrm, I think that's why my exhaust smells really bad right after a rainy period. I think moisture gets into the can, mold and other stuff starts growing in it, which then gets fried when I go ride.
